Flash drives and windows 98???

Hi Everyone,

I have allot of pictures that I have stored onto floppy drives when I used my old PC..A couple years ago I bought a new Laptop to update and get new features ext. The Laptop has no floppy drive and I am wanting to convert my pictures to a CD..

My problem is the Old PC is running windows 98SE and doesn't have the driver needed to use the flash drive. Another problem is I can't get online with the old PC as I am on DSL now and do not have the proper hook-ups for the old PC. So I can't get online to download the driver if there is one avalible?

Anyone know if there is a driver for these? Its a Verbatim 512 USB Flash Drive..And Can I somehow download it to a CD so I can install it on the old PC..

My Laptop (HPdv5000) has Windows XP Home on it if that matters..

Verbatim has some 98SE flash drivers...
If you laptop can burn a CD... there ya go, hopefully.

The fact the computer said it was not recognised shows the computer is aware 'something' had been attached. As Kudzu notes, it may be defective. You could ask a family member or friend to try it in another computer to confirm that. You could burn the photos to a CD to give away if you do not want to buy another flash drive.

I vote for azinoh's approach. Using Windows Explorer, select the unwanted files and push the delete button. Reformatting a drive simply to remove files isn't a good idea, it's like going fishing with a depth charge. Reason being - there could be firmware or other software files that a reformat could remove and make the drive inoperable. Why take the unnecessary risk?
