This rose just recently came to my attention and I can't get enough of it. I'm just a newbie, so please keep us updated on its performance. It's one of the prettiest roses I've seen. From where did you get yours? I looked recently, but everyone seemed to be sold out.

Vapor, it's breathtaking, really. Even though it is a baby, i'm taken back by how intricate the bloom was. I'm a complete newbie too, but no worries. You learn as you go! I bought mine from Rougue Valley Roses. The plant was rather small and I wasn't too thrilled with it, but he is coming along nicely. I would order from them again, although they wouldn't be my first choice.

Did Baron bloom first then of the two you got together from RVR?

Yes, he did. I'm still waiting on Comice de Tarn-et-Garonne to bloom, but it is busy putting out much more growth and new shoots. That's why I cut off the old, wooded over branch from Baron. I want to stimulate the new growth that's appearing.

What a beautiful rose. Comice de Tarn-et-Garonne is very high on my wish list. I might have to add this one too. I planted Alfred Colomb and Reine de Violette this year for hybrid perpetuals. Can't wait to watch that doc on YouTube!

I'm excited to see Comice bloom, along with my other antique roses I purchased this year. Although very small, I have a new Garden. So, deciding what goes in it has been an exciting and really interesting process. I'll report back on all of them! Please everyone, share your pictures and insight on this thread. Virgina, I looked up Roger Lambelin earlier in the year and remember thinking that he was a dead ringer for Baron. Does anyone grow it?

Simply gorgeous. I've never attempted to grow it as it is generally regarded as a difficult rose to keep happy. My climate is benevolent but my soil is not kind to the more demanding roses. Yours however seems to be thriving.

Wasn't that docuntary amazing?? One can only dream gardennut! I'm so glad other rose lovers are enjoying it too, makes me resent my small NYC garden.. I wish I could highly recommend Baron, but he's still so tiny I'm not sure what's I store for the future. So far, so good though!

Michael, I give you a lot of credit for growing roses in nyc. I am new to rose growing and I have planted about 12 old roses this year. I appreciate roses because they reward you blooms very quickly. I also collect historic bearded irises but they can take years to bloom.

Glad to see pictures of the Baron. I've always assumed he'd look something like cabbage but yours is really beautiful and I'm just amazed you can find ANY time to garden while in nursing school. My daughter-in-law just completed it and it was grueling! You should be very proud of yourself for your accomplishments! Gibsongirl, that button eyes just melts every part of my being! I recently became interested in historic iris also as I have many old varieties that I couldn't identify. I am in the Guardian Garden program as of a few months ago. Will be exciting to participate in the saving and sharing of iris varieties.

Anne, that is the first rose with a button eye that I've ever seen and it is beautiful. I just looked up the Guardian Garden program and I really want to be a part of that. I have about 40 pretty rare named varieties and soo many unnamed old irises. I love trading and passing them along. Especially the rarer ones.

Historic irises sounds like my 2010 blue wave iris 4 years and still yet to see a bloom although my yellow iris from my great grandparents house blooms well and multiplies fast
