Fridge quandry: Which 'Bottom-Freezer, French-Door' fridge?!
Comments (13)After MUCH research , I bought a Kenmore French Door w/ice & water in the door. I previously had 3 different side by sides. My last SBS was two years old and ruined by Hurricane Ike. I also had a separate freezer in the garage that wasn't replaced. I discovered that I didn't need a separate freezer due to the extra freezer space gained with the French Door model. The French Door style accommodates larger items that will not fit in the narrow side by side freezer. I love the french door style. The ice and water feature on the outside causes the loss of some fridge space, but I was willing to make that sacrifice. My first SBS was one of the very first made by Sears, a Coldspot. It lasted 26 years or so. I hope this Kenmore will last as long. (I know I won't last that long)...See MoreFreezer door left open 5 days....fridge & freezer not cold ..what now?
Comments (3)It just needed to reboot. It will be fine as it ever was. But you should have cleaned it out while it was hot. Now you need to wait 24 hours to stabilize the temperature....See MoreSub Zero freezer drawers or Jenn Air Fridge/Freezer? Advice anyone?
Comments (2)We had to decide between SubZero and Perlick drawers. In the end, we picked Perlick. There were a little bit of growing pains. The initial factory settings resulted in frozen coils every few weeks. I guess, it depends a little bit on your climate. The service technician tweaked the settings and the drawers have now been working fine for over a year. So, I guess the problem is fixed. We like that they are more spacious than then SubZero drawers. And we like that there is no ice maker, which we didn't want (takes up way too much space in drawers). But we don't like that Perlick is a little noisier than SubZero. So, I think in hindsight, it's a bit of a wash. We probably would have been fine with SubZero as well. We do have a SubZero all-fridge column that goes with two sets of freezer drawers. That combination is amazing. So much nicer than traditional freezers....See More1 Commercial Fridge or 2 Bottom Freezer Fridges?
Comments (16)Commercial units are energy hogs, put out lots of heat and are very loud. They have zero organization and can be difficult to clean. Don't do it. I had a home with a double set of 30" SZ side by side. Thus, two refrigerators and four drawers. The were the built-in type with cabinetry. They were beautiful, but having double refrigerators was a little puzzling. You often didn't know where you put something and had to open both. I doubt you want to go to that type of expense. I wouldn't have. But, I did buy the house with them in it and benefited from it. My suggestion is to get a really good 36" for the kitchen and another lesser one or freezer only, depending upon your needs, for the garage/basement/laundry/pantry. I'm having to replace a 48" unit in my new house. It's costing me a small fortune to do so. I have a really good 36" in the garage for overflow. I wish I had the 36" in the house. I also had a set of 36" SZ refrigerator and separate freezer. They were beautiful, but they took up a lot of room. You indicated that you didn't want to go to that kind of expense. The Frigidaire's are an odd size and will lock you into replacing them with the same thing....See More- 10 years ago
