Oh shoot! Now I have one more thing to check before I retire for the night: lock the doors; make certain doggie is tucked away for the night; check that the gas stove is turned off ... and now, I have to double check the doors on the refrigerator and freezer! Actually, I'd be more concerned about the foods in the freezer thawing out than I would about the doors to the house being locked! We've all worked hard to prepare and freeze everything in the freezer ... and I don't think anyone reall wants to break into our home. So sorry for your loss -- although I hope you just tough it out and keep everything, being careful, of course, as you consume it. Do you have any enemies you can invite over for a meal? If so, you can have them taste the food first. Just a thought ... Kathy

We looked at that model for our laundry room and thought the smaller doors would be good since we don't have much swing room. DH pointed out that the door shelves take up so much of that space when you open up the doors -- the opening feels cramped and cluttered. maybe you won't miss it. ;-) We are looking at Whirlpool or Samsung models, but they are 32-5/8" wide. The Whirlpool also has a 30" model and I am favoring one of those because the shelves have more adjustment potential. The icemaker bucket is much larger in the Samsung -- a good thing if you want to be able to store up a lot of ice, not so good if you con't use a lot and want to maximize other storage. Wow, they look so much better filled with food! Mine would never look like that - I would open up that big clunky freezer drawer and it would be - EMPTY!!! (Probably everything I store in the freezer would fit in the two auxiliary drawers inside.) Which is why I ended up going for the Frigidaire top freezer after all. I was in PC Richard this afternoon placing my appliance order (great sale this weekend!). The salesman had already written up the GE Profile bottom freezer model, but while he went off to talk to the manager for a minute, I checked out the refrigerators again. That drawer is so massive. I have so little frozen food. Plus the GE Profile was *literally* twice the price of the Frigidaire. I've had a top freezer all my life, I'm comfortable with it, I wouldn't know what I was missing by not having a bottom freezer. And what if I ended up *hating* the bottom freezer?? After spending $1400 on a refrigerator!! I switched the order to the top freezer. And got to feel virtuous that *something* in this renovation actually came out on budget. :-) Thanks, everyone, for your comments!! They were absolutely helpful. I'm just a wimp. :-)

UPDATE: Well...I got myself a Rubbermaid coil cleaning brush and pulled the kickplate off the fridge. As anticipated there was enough dog fur clogged underneath to make half a dozen toupees. The coils were way in the back (and hard to reach) but I scrubbed clean what I could and vacuumed up the fur and dust. Only the bottom row of coils was visible so hopefully that is where must of the gunk was. The temp of the fridged seemed to drop almost immediately. I'll keep an eye on it the next few days to make sure it stays steady. Hopefully no more issues will surface. Thanks for the advice folks. Cheers!
