If you read the specs the s x s do have more freezer space. I was set on buying CD FD until I started to do the research. I love how the FD refs. look but, for us, the s x s seems to make more sense. Guess it depends on your family. We are 2 seniors so don't need freezer space to fit pizza boxes (we make our own pizza). We shop for fresh fruits and vegs. several times a week. So we don't need the bigger space of the fresh food part of the ref. When we both worked we shopped once a week. When we were first married had a top freezer ref. and I hated trying to find things up there. FD is same, just freezer on bottom instead of top. So my advice is to take a look at your family composition, your shopping habits, and then get what you feel works best for your family. Like I said, I think the FD is better looking but s x s works best for us! Good luck!!

hey 3waller, i was having a tough time deciding on refrigeration myself and recently made a decision which I think will work for me. Originally I was considering the 27" all fridge and 27" all freezer by subzero. These two units would have the cabinet panels on them and be divided in the center by a 27" pantry. I was concerned that the 27" fridge was too small for my family of 5 so I began searching other options. My wife and I came across the Miele 30" all refrigerator in a showroom and fell in love with it. It is a stunning piece inside and out. I have had Sub zero in the past and the miele just seems better built, better to look at a better usable space inside, of course all my opinion. However, after looking further into it, the Miele only offers a 18" freezer (too small), and the next size is a 30" freezer (too large for us) So I was disappointed. After researching a bit more I decide to get the 30" fridge by Miele and a 24" freezer by Thermadore. These units will both be covered on front so you would not be able to see a difference and because of my layout with the pantry in the center this option is possible. After calling the salesman he informed me that people do this combination quite often because Miele lacks the 24" all freezer. So in the end I wind up with the sizes I want and actually save a decent amount of money on the freezer end. From what I understand Thermadore is a solid product but may have lacked in the past with their service, I was informed that they have been correcting this issue and it is something I was willing to risk by purchasing their product. Don't overlook the Jenn-Air Fridges. They have been rated #1 for reliability by Consumer Reports since about 2005 (before they were bought by Maytag and subsequently Whirlpool). Even today they are still rated # 1 as far as built in Fridges are concerned. SZ usted to be rated "Dead last" reliability, but they have managed to "Climb off the bottom", now. SZ is apparently still (they went back) to the old On/off style compressors, while virtually every other Fridge, (Miele, Lebherr,Most the Whirpool Family--etc etc), use the variable speed compressors. One does not need 2 separate compressors to keep veggies fruits etc etc to last longer---plenty of "Brags --- blah blah blah---etc etc as to how long the JA keeps food, as well as most any other New Fridge. I would only buy the JA, however, if I could find a "Deal", IE Craig's List, Ebay, Demo Model etc etc on the JA. Good Luck on your hunt. I think you will be happier with a shallower fridge as you won't (as one poster put it) have "Chemical Experiments" ((Paraphrasing)), going on in the very back recesses of the older style deep fridges!!! We bought the Lg, waiting for delivery. Honestly, our deciding factor ended up being price. Bought it at HH Gregg when it was on sale for $2298. Manager discounted it another $50, then let me use a 10% Lowe's coupon, bringing it to around $2k. I've never seen it below $2200-$2500.
