I just got back from Florida and really liked these Florida sea salts.(www.floridasaltscrubs.com)

I picked up a few for myself and now just ordered more to have on hand as gifts.

I exchange small gifts wth a few friends so I am thinking ahead.

The ones that I have tried and liked are the grapefruit, orange and coconut. Grapefruit is my favorite.

They come in three sizes. I am getting the small ones for my friends, so I can them three each.

I think these would make fun stocking stuffers or favors.

I bet it would be great DIY gift after you compare costs of the ingredients compared to the cost/shipping.

Before I joined my garden club ordered bulbs in bulk for sharing. I hope we can do it again and also share seeds. We visit local ecological vegetable farms, public gardens and parks with special features, our own gardens and local private gardens of some fame. We organize a country walk in spring to a beauty spot where one of us has made a fire for a barbecue in advance. Last year we had a talk by a remarkable woman farmer who grows several old varieties of grains like spelt and visited her farm in summer to buy flour and taste and buy her bread. We arrange plant fairs on a small scale twice a year and sell our surplus plants and produce. This fall we will have a pelargonium competition. Each contestant starts with a cutting of the same size and the same variety (Wilhelm Langguth) supplied by a member who is a collector. Next week we will visit a local nursery after hours where we get reduced prices when we come as group. The owner gives a short talk about novelties and any plants of distinction. Here is a post for sugar shakers to make with kids that I posted a couple of years ago. Someone else on here gave me the idea to add cinnamon and now we call them 'cinnamon sprinkles'. We make these almost every year and my kids love it. I buy the cheapest generic salt and pepper shakers I can find. We make them in Christmas colors. Every child gets a bag with a cup of sugar, food coloring, and cinnamon to shake. Leave one bag without food coloring. It adds a little variety in the layering. Also, I find it helps to dry them in the oven a little while so it doesnt clump. It may need to be a two day project for the class. Keep a plate or bowl under the shakers when you are filling them to catch the spills. At the end, make a little tag saying to use the cinnamon sprinkles on hot buttered toast for cinnamon toast. Tie on with curly ribbon. It makes a nice gift because it is consumable and the kids do get to help with a majority of the work. Here is a link that might be useful: Sugar Shakers

And what happened is DLM saw my name and said to herself what are the odds? Then she looked at my FB page and saw my lemons drawing and she knew it was me. Linelle asked: But help me understand how Atlanta comes into the equation. :) My daughter was flying from SW FL and it was actually cheaper for her to fly into Atlanta than into Charlotte, so he agreed to pick her up in Atlanta. So they met up at the Atlanta airport. Carrie, DLM is one of the GW members. Soon as I read it I skipped to the bottom as I was sure who it was !! So cool !! Life has a way of giving us gifts that we need Well said trailrunner. And DLM and I are now Facebook friends which I'm sure makes the kids "thrilled"...NOT. LOL. Honestly, I don't think we could have scripted a better story.

Grapefruit is one of my favorite scents! Thanks for this recommendation. The glow spray looks nice, too.

Grainlady thank you for the DIY link. I bought 25 lbs of salt for a dye project and have about 10 lbs left over. I'm going to try making a homemade scrub with a little of it.

Safety monitor's report:

-the DIY videos show the concoction in a glass jar. That's probably not a good choice for containing a slippery, oily solution in a shower or tub. A plastic container would probably be a better choice.

-Salt is very corrosive and can eat through metal drain pipes and tub and shower drain fittings. After using such a product, I think it would be a good idea to be sure to flush a lot of water down that drain. While plastic drain pipe has been popular for awhile, parts of drain systems can still have cast iron parts because it's quieter. Older structures would have just cast iron.

When I went to Branson, before Christmas, I saw the jars in restrooms for use. I'm enjoying mine that DIL made for me. Smells good too!
