Time to Plan the CT Fall Swap ( Part 2,continued)
Comments (57)Another GREAT (if slightly OT but who cares) idea! Here's the blueberry buckle (courtesy of Lyman Orchards): Cake: 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 cup softened butter 1 egg 1/2 cup milk (whole or skim, doesn't matter) 2 cups flour 2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 cups fresh or frozen blueberries Blend sugar and butter together until fluffy. Add egg and mix well. Blend in milk and remaining dry ingredients. Add blueberries. Spread batter (which will be VERY thick and stiff -- don't worry, just push it into the pan with brute force!) into a greased 9x9 inch pan. Sprinkle topping (recipe below) over batter and bake at 375 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Topping: 1/2 cup sugar 1/3 cup flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 cup soft butter Mix ingredients (food processor is fine - just pulse) until crumbly. Can't wait to try all these - thanks! (More on-topic: who brought the big clump of elephant ears? When I went to repot them today, I found a plastic bag of bulbs tucked at the base...any idea who was to have those and/or what they are? If they were brought for someone, I'll happily mail them on if you send me the address... I feel guilty enough already with a garage full of plants!) / Marty...See MoreThe pool life (part 2 of 'New Pool Underway' thread)
Comments (61)Readyami, thank you! We have some "mixed metaphors" going on with the Texas star decorations and the un-tiki gazebo, but I've always been kind of eclectic anyway, LOL! :-) Tim, thanks! When I was putting the skull up I was thinking "This belongs on Tim's pirate ship", haha! The ball is a Japanese glass fishing float (this one is actually a modern replica), a long time favorite decoration in tiki bars and restaurants the world round. It's as required a staple as the traditional hanging puffer fish lamp (I have one of those too) :-) Mostly they were hung indoors in arrangements of different colors and different heights and sometimes were lighted from within. I can't direct-link the photos, but if you look at the thread linked below (photos of vintage tiki bars) you'll see what I mean. They were also popular as A-frame decorations. My A-frame is actually a little teeny version of the real thing, the traditional A-frames built on restaurants and bars were enormous and had gigantic glass fishing float replicas, period light fixtures or even outrigger canoes hanging under them. Comments (78)Had almost two weeks of overcast weather, with a goodly (for us, amyway) amount of rain. Now we are transitioning into clear skier and sunny weather, and the highs are supposed to get into the 80s tomorrow and Friday. Tempting to plant out. However, clear skies mean colder nights. Forecast calls for lows in mid/low 40s through early next week. And even though last night's low was only supposed to be 40, it got all the way down to 34 degrees, the birdbath froze over, and my marigolds got pretty well frosted. The other herbs didn't seem to mind, but I'd have been in some trouble if I'd given in and planted out. Average LFD is this coming Sunday. We'll see....See MoreFALL is here! Seasonal thread part 2
Comments (134)Oops! I was trying to take a picture, and somehow hit “submit”. Better to hit submit than lose everything, as has happened too many times. Lol Sara ann, those are some lovely roses. I hope you get to enjoy blooms for a little longer. Trish, what a wonderful vacation! The pictures are glorious! I do love seeing different gardens from different places. Thank you for showing them to us. I hope you’re having a great time. Here’s what Violet’s Pride looks like this afternoon, after our Santa Ana. She held up pretty well. There’s a tiny piece of Baronne Prevost bloom cluster in the far left of the photo. She’s been blooming all summer. A closer look at Baronne Prevost. She’s so beautiful, and smells wonderful. Flowers, you really do need to try her sometime. I just took this picture now, so these blooms held up beautifully through the Santa Ana. It’s a very quiet day here today, without Millie. The staff at Brandon’s work wanted him to bring Millie to work with him today, just for fun. Brandon texted and said the vets are totally amazed at her recovery. She loves going to the veterinarian office, unlike most cats. She spent three months of her early life in a clinic, so she feels right at home in that setting. The staff put up a baby gate, so she could roam around the area where the staff is working without her getting into places she shouldn’t. Brandon’s text said Millie is having the time of her life, with all the extra people loving on her. I asked him to take some pictures. I hope he does. It’s hard to believe she’s so well, after she was so ill that she was nearly euthanized twice. We may never know what is was/is that she had/has. I just hope it’s gone and never returns. Just having her gone for today makes me miss her. Have a great weekend, everyone. Lisa...See Morebengz6westmd
