Professional Ranges are not for home kitchens
Comments (150)Yeah... a little late to the game here for the original posters, but it's just a fundamental difference in opinion between the actual "cooks" out here who have the desire and or skills to make use of features in high performance pro-style ranges, and the other camp who more-or-less just use ranges to "reheat" foods and boil water for pasta, frozen veggies, etc. Apples and oranges. Any poster who uses an electric cooktop or (gasp) flat surface range and is content with it does not in any way intend to use a range/oven to produce professional-type cooking products. Baking perhaps... but not cooking. Find a thread posted by amateur chefs and/or professional chefs who cook at home if you want informative opinions on pro-style ranges ... IF you intend to use them as they are intended to be used....See MoreOkay, so I think I'm done...Thank you ! (PICS)
Comments (81)That is the prettiest backsplash I have ever seen. I love: - the surprise sparkly squares - the color flow between the backsplash and the granite - the large amount of bright white in the backsplash and granite, with a minimum of grey (I like silver/gold, but not grey tones) - how the cabinet stain seems to match a hue in the mosaic backsplash... PERFECTLY! As though the cabinet stain was designed for that mosaic or vice-versa. Wow. Also quite clever is that curve-around feature on the peninsula. That looks very fun and very practical. Questions: Do you do cartwheels into this kitchen every morning from sheer glee? Did you put brackets under the granite curved out part? What chairs did you settle on ? Thanks to the person who linked to this thread from a posting today!...See Morestruggling btwn Kraftmaid/Anerican Woodmark - and Veneer inserts
Comments (24)Also a few things. 12 cabinets total. molding included, handles not. the AWM was the other way around but I agree id prefer to get moldings and pick my own handles that are probably not terribly expensive knowing I like a plain simple look. KM is not frameless, but im ok with that, i think framed is probably sturdier anyway but I dont have any big openings. lowers have roll-outs on both (left and right side of a door base cabinet). pantry has roll-outs on the bottom 3/4 shelves. the other base cabinet is a trash pullout. side of the stove is a 9 inch plain for cookie sheets. uppers are corners, above micro and fridge. kitchens is like 10x11 ish....give or take. Agree the biscotti is to creamy and dirty looking, probably going with canvas. Floors are going to be darker wood, something to pull out the cocoa glaze, i think im really digging that floor/cabinet contrast. Counter tops, granite for sure. Im still struggling with that too. Either dark (maybe even black-ish or something with some blue? kinda weird I know but I have something in my head) or gray. I know its alot of color, but Ive seen examples of dark wood/light cabinets/grayish counter tops....opinions?...See MoreWhat is a fair price to renovate a kitchen?
Comments (14)I'm in suburban Philadelphia and also doing a small kitchen. But I'm acting as my own GC and KD. I designed the layout, hired a custom cabinet maker (solid maple and oak construction), electrician, plumber, window company. Plus I've done most of the buying of my own supplies (faucet, backsplash tile, lights, even switches and outlets, hood, range). Some online and some locally. Custom Cabinets Quartz Countertop One Window (keeping floor - it's slate) GE Profile Range Hood (new install) sink and faucet electrical work plumbing - just new under sink (old corroded) carrera marble subway backsplash I'm up to ~$22-23K at this point (they are down there drywalling as I write!) I think I saved a LOT of money doing it this way but it's been very time consuming for me to keep track of all the details and make every decision. I also have really good contractors. Lived in this area many years so the plumber and window people are our 'regulars', the electrician works with my DH and does this as a side job. The cabinet maker is a funny story. Recommended by a colleague whose wife works with BOTH of the wives of the carpenters! I'm in research and colleagues wife is at another local research institute. It's a brother/brother-in-law operation and they've done quite a few kitchens for the local scientific community and everyone raves about them. OH, and I'm having a rather large pantry (8 doors) in a hall off the kitchen reframed and hung with matching doors. So it seems I've about spent your quote without the floor, design work or arch, but including one appliance. Hope this helps you somewhat. Good luck!...See Morebeachem
