How do I keep cats from eating plants?
Comments (14)Training helps... easier if your cat hates the spray bottle as mine does. They can be taught "no", just like a dog. Some are more stubborn than others though, so good luck. I make a loud "psst" noise, or clap my hands or stomp my foot as I say no firmly, the noise can help startle kitty into paying attention just like a spray bottle. I have glass shelves across most of my growing windows so plenty of space to keep plants out of reach... I also do not allow my cat on hard surfaces, like shelves and tables so that helps a great deal. It takes time, just be consistent. Eventually kitty should form the association of if I do this then that thing I dislike will happen. Dogs are easier, as praising them when you get home for not terrorizing your domicile goes a long way. One day when I have floor plants we may need a re-education session, but I often place my big ZZ plant on an end table near my couch and we havent had any trouble. I do also grow cat grass on occasion, and offer it to her next to her food dish so as to keep the message very clear that this one is ok....See MoreDo rabbits eat hostas
Comments (8)The answer is yes,and no. I've had hostas growing around my property and in my garden for nine years, with no problems with rabbits! This year, for the first time a rabbit came in and chewed off some tender ends of my emerging hostas. They have recovered nicely, and believe me there are plenty of rabbits around my woods! I am not worried about it,because we will probably have no attacks next year. The worst thing that happened was the hail storm we had in April, which left some holes in some hostas. Comments (26)- She often barks at me to get me to go into another room. - She demands 1 1/2 to 2 mile walks 3-4 times a day. - She will hold out for days to get the food she wants. - Last Fall she dragged me downhill into a tree (squirrel) and my knee was swollen and numb for three months. - If there is a fly in the house she runs after it and onto furniture (no, no) and barks so the lamps vibrate until either she or I kill it. - Frightens the neighbors or passersby by barking at them. If they come over she licks them. If they keep going she keeps barking. - She wakes me up at 5:30 or 6 every morning. - She barks, if that doesn't work then talks to me and as a last resort comes over and puts her head on my lap and looks up at me until she gets exactly what she wants. - She will come and sit at attention just out of reach to make me lean toward her and then she turns and heads off leading me to what she wants. Look at her dish....food. Stop short of the door, look for leash....walk. Nose up to the door...wants out on the deck. Front door....open it to look out of the storm door and guard the house. Finished her water and wants more. - Berserk....squirrel, raccoon, turkey, groundhog (especially), cat, dog, bike, bee, snake....... Should I go on?...See MoreHow to keep Rabbits from eating my landscaping?
Comments (2)Hey there Rocky, welcome to Gw! I've been dealing with rabbits and deer. There is a product called Deer Off that works well with rabbits as well. I used it and have had good results. It is supposed to last 4 months but check weekly to make sure that there isn't any new munch marks on your plants, if you see some then re-apply. It cost about 17.00 at Home Depot and is in the same section as the weed killers and fertilizers. Good luck and post often! Tracy...See MoreDebbi Branka
