My LR: Change of Plans?
Comments (15)Thanks everyone. I know art is so subjective, but it is nice to hear that others like it as well. She isn't for the faint of heart, but I love her and I'm glad others can appreciate the piece too. DH has gone from saying "well fine if you love it" to "that was so the right call, it looks amazing in our house." Maybe he just has good survival instincts?? girlville - I love fireplaces too. We plan on staying in this house for another decade at least, so resale isn't an issue for us. That said, it is only a painting, we can move it and do the fireplace anytime, and likely would before we sold the house. I have explored another couple of locations for the painting, including on the wall near our peninsula seating in the kitchen. The painting is large and given its orientation I honestly think that the location shown in the photos is the best spot for it. She could overpower almost any space, but our LR is a good size with nearly 10' ceilings, so that helps. I've considered putting a small (i.e. not very high but longish) fireplace in under the painting, but worry about the heat and the impact on the painting. If we do an ethanol no-venting fp they don't give off much heat, so that may be less of an problem. loribee - I didn't like the caramel colour on that segment of the wall before the painting went up. I think it works reasonably well with the painting though. Anyone else have thoughts on colours - does the caramel seem okay? What about the large white wall that continues into the DR? It seems a little anemic to me. Thanks again!...See MoreWhat do you think of this rug for my LR?
Comments (42)Thanks sheesharee, for the compliments. It came together with a little bit of luck in finding things, lots of patience waiting for the right thing to come around and a lot of help from this board to advise when to jump or when to keep looking. Yours will too! I've been looking for a rug for this room for about 6 months how, but I just did not have the vision or confidence to know what I wanted though I like to think that has changed. :) Thurs I go to look at the rug, plus my patio set comes in so I'm hoping to have some pics to share by Friday....See MoreHow would you spend my $10k budget?
Comments (22)You say you still are not sure you understand the differences between panel-ready and fully-integrated fridges. Please look at the photos on this thread of the fridges. A panel-ready fridge simply tacks the panels onto the fridge, and the fridge's trim, hinges, venting, and water dispenser (if you choose one) will show. Also, as Joe Henderson pointed out above, panel-ready fridges usually have black sides, so you have to be sure your cabinetry will cover the sides. A panel-ready fridge cannot be completely flush with the cabinetry, because the hinges are on the outside of the fridge, and there have to be a couple inches sticking out from the cabinetry so that the doors can open. As I mentioned, I do not understand the purpose of spending money to panel this type of fridge. IMO, it looks nicer just to have the fridge be a fridge. Alternatively, a fully-integrated fridge means the fridge disappears entirely into the cabinetry. No hinges, trim, or venting show. The fridge is totally flush with the cabinetry, and the hinges are hidden. With a fully-integrated fridge, usually the homeowner installs the same handles as the rest of the cabinetry (just bigger - cabinet hardware companies sell fridge handles exactly for this purpose). When a fully-integrated fridge doors are closed, it is hard to spot where the fridge is in the kitchen....See MoreThis is my style...unfortunately, not my budget!
Comments (22)That was the NYC apartment of Broadway producer Terry Allen Kramer who died this past spring at the age of 85. She also had a Palm Beach house, La Follia, and when it went on the market last autumn, it was listed at $135 million, reportedly the most expensive US property ever listed. Her obit, https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/05/obituaries/terry-allen-kramer-dead.html La Follia apparently sold at $104,990,000, https://www.elliman.com/florida/1295-south-ocean-boulevard-palm-beach-cqpczfc https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/g24883275/terry-allen-kramer-palm-beach-house/ It still makes the NYC penthouse look like a deal!...See Morejlsch
