This is what happens after 3 months of no water
Comments (14)Thanks. I'm pretty excited about the possibility of lots of blooms this year. This is just one of the most beautiful plants when it blooms. The flowers are truly amazing. Andrea - You can't assume all Dends would respond to this kind of culture. Maybe you have Dend phals? Hybrids? They would need very different culture. That's why I prefer growing the species. It's much easier figuring out what they want. Calvin - I did give it some water a few days ago when I noticed the spikes. Funny how I missed them. The canes were kind of shriveled, but not all that bad. They plumped right back up after the water. Another observation: All the spikes were produced on the side of the plant facing the window even though I have CFL's mounted above the plants too. WC - I think this is another reason to grow fewer plants. You just have more time to figure out what each one wants. Florrie - That's a good question. I know it depends on what kind of Dend you have (see my above comment), but I've never been clear about what to do with seedling of Dends that normally go through some sort of rest period in their natural environment. One would assume the baby plants would encounter the same conditions as their parents growing nearby, but I know a lot of people treat seedling differently than mature plants. Maybe someone has some thoughts on that. Kevin Nancy - I agree about the tweaking. That's why I like Dends so much....See MoreFinal Appraisal 3 Months AFTER Closing?
Comments (3)kelly~ Glad you got this all figured out. And good of you to not let the guy in from off the street. You never know what kind of wacko's could "invent" a story like that. The fact that it was a legitimate appraiser is a bit of a relief (I was thinking it was a NUT case!!). I'm glad your bank is willing to let you send photos of the rear and let it be done. :O) By the way, I think your builder is a bum. After taking so long to build your (GORGEOUS, COMPLETELY GORGEOUS!!) home, and you being patient and waiting and all of that... well, I'm just irritated that he's fallen off the face of the earth. Too bad you can't recommend him now. GW is a big community, and he might have gotten more work from referrals by miss Kelly. Not likely now. Why would someone want to do that at the end of a relationship? Why not leave a happy customer..... referrals are the way of the world for most businesses. I guess he missed that fact in building 101. :o( Anyway, glad you and dh are able to fix the remaining items on the punch list. It looks soooo awesome already, it's probably okay if it takes you a bit of time to whittle down that list. :o) Merry Christmas to you and yours... in your gorgeous new home!...See MoreReview of my kitchen after 3 months
Comments (9)Shicksal - we built a new attached garage directly in front of the old one before we converted the old one to a kitchen. Phillyfeet - The warming drawer was @1,300 plus the custom wood panel on the front. Don't know that I would do it again... Sweet-tea - So far the pine floors are holding up great, but we know what we are in for. They are stained and then I think a couple of coats of poly. We had them match the floors to the existing family room (to which the kitchen opens up) and those floors are beat to hell. But, we like the "rustic" look, so that doesn't bother us (well, me) a bit. If you are in the pristine is necessary camp, I suggest you choose a different flooring....See MoreAfter months of preparation, house is now listed
Comments (22)Holly, Tone and mood are really hard to convey in a text-only medium and posts are misinterpreted all the time. Your post that simply said "Wow, nevermind" really seems to imply that you were offended and hurt by the innocent comments above it. It's hard to read it any other way. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but that's how most people will interpret it. There are a lot of 'fixers' on this forum. In fact, the main purpose of forums in general is to ask questions and get opinions and answers. It's hard to understand when someone doesn't want that. I'm a 'fixer' by nature and I can't tell you how many arguments I've gotten into with my wife when she's come to me with a complaint about something (unrelated to me) and I try to solve her problem when all she wanted was for me to listen and say "Wow, that sucks!". In your case, I guess all you want is congratulations and good luck! So congratulations and good luck! <And just to make sure that there is no misinterpretation, the comment above is sincere, not sarcastic.> :)...See MoreILoveRed
