$150 to return a swimsuit? That's robbery!!!

I can understand postage & insurance-- but that is overkill.

I left a watch at a Ritz Carlton in Cancun- they mailed it back without charging anything.

My dad left his jacket at a hotel in Seattle. They mailed it to him and didn't charge him anything.

I've left a couple of items in hotel rooms and was never charged for return shipping.

We once left a canvas sack of clothes. It was mailed back right away and they asked just for the postage which we gladly paid.

My DH left a heavy jacket in a hotel. They shipped it to us for the price of the postage.

$150 is highway robbery, and shame on a hospitality business for ripping people off!

I would have thought it would be cheaper to just get a new swimsuit for that kind of money. What a rip off indeed!

We don't know all the facts. It may have been an individual employee working outside the hotel policies. It may not reflect the actual cost paid, we do not know this friend or whether the info was valid.

I suggest the OP call the hotel and ask what the costs might be, if it is reimbursement for actual shipping plus maybe a few dollars to have the shipment insured, that sounds reasonable.

Last year a honeymooning couple left *six drawers full of clothes* at our Maui condo. I contacted our cleaner, who agreed to go buy mailing materials, pack up the clothing, research the cheapest postage, and take it all to the post office. (Nothing 'simple' about it.) I charged the man's CC for the cleaner's time, the mailing materials and the postage. He never even thanked us.

Have never left anything in a hotel but did leave our wheelchair permit in a rental vehicle in Las Vegas. The company mailed it to me without charge.

chi, I'm left wondering... did you contact them first to see what they wanted to do? I have to say, they probably did want that much stuff back, but what if they didn't? Hm. I can't see how they wouldn't. I appreciate that you took the time to do it, but I don't count do I? :)

I got a email from them today and it is $24.95 to send it to me. It looks like a business withing the hotel. We stayed at the Sheraton and the business is Penfield's Office-Pack, Ship, Copy, Print. I am calling them soon.

When you pay big bucks to stay someplace it just seems like good hospitality and graciousness to not charge a guest to return a forgotten item. $150 is disgraceful but I do agree with Lucille we don't know the entire story.

We forgot a wristwatch in a night stand on a Holland America cruise from FL. Never missed it. Three months later we received the watch in the mail from their main office on the west coast. No charge. Very impressive "lost and found" department.

One time I left a special pillow with pillow case and remembered and we turned around fast and it was still there. But another time I had put my nightie on the bed and it got missed and remembered it and too late to return to the motel to get it and phoned and sorry, didn't see it, could have just been swept up with bedding or maid said hey, good nightie and took it. and that same time left nightie, I had left my summer jacket, only one I had and needed it on the ferry and my dad phoned and told them he would collect it and then he mailed it to me as I needed it. Have no idea what amount they would charge for mailing costs, no idea. I guess we all have to be more careful but when rushing out you do miss those things but to pay that amount unreal that is but then I guess too you have to go is that important to me? Nice to having someone there to collect it for you. kathy

In the 70's we were on a vacation in Acapulco, mysteriously we were missing my husband's swimsuit and a bottle of my cologne...nothing expensive and nothing done about it either..it's not much but if a few items were taken from each room each time someone stayed there......

rob -- Oh, the groom called me from Canada once they got home, asking me for the clothes. (I couldn't imagine forgetting a whole dresser full of clothes.) He was just lucky that my cleaner was willing to do this -- including researching the cheapest postage for him. We've had many a cleaner in the past who would scoff at the idea.

Long ago, on a cruise, I quickly 'cleaned up' our cabin before going down to dinner -- sweeping some Kleenex off my dresser into the wastebasket. When we got ready for bed I realized that my pearl and diamond earrings had been in the Kleenex. The purser had our porter go through all the waste from his section of cabins, and I got my earrings back! We tipped the porter handsomely.

How on earth can a person leave a place and not wonder where six drawers of clothing he arrived with are? I Admit I'm somewhat OC about checking _everywhere_ when we move on, even drawers etc we haven't even used. Which isn't always a good thing: once I found dirty diapers under the bed, and our child was about 10 at the time :- P .

A friend who has a B&B waits to hear from the guests concerned if she finds anything left behind, since the time she phoned one guest to let her know my friend had found the ball gown the guest had worn when she had on the previous weekend attended a ball in our town with her husband, to be answered, "But I haven't been to [your town] in ages." Talk about awkward.

I don't think I have an article of clothes worth $150 that could be left in a room, outside of a suit which hasn't been worn in over 10 years anyway. My jeans and t-shirts are much less than that. I too am pretty OC about checking for things before leaving. I tend to live out of a suitcase when I travel so I don't have as much to worry about or as much to pack and unpack in the room. I've even gone so far at times (long ago) to make a list of things that are taken out if they're spread around so I remember it. I don't like losing things but for the most part my stuff isn't that valuable. Especially in clothing.

This still sounds whacked. Not calling your friend a fibber at all ... but it sounds more like "I know someone who has a friend who has an aunt who left ....". I doubt that 1) any hotel would charge someone $150 to return a swimsuit and 2) anyone would pay $150 to have a swimsuit returned to them. Of course, some of the things that I think are extraordinary turn out to be not so to some folks.

Suzieque: I think there might be quite a few women who would pay anything to get a swimsuit back rather than have to go buy a new one! Just remember (generally speaking!) what it's like to try on swimsuits in dressing rooms with multiple mirrors! LOL!
