I would choose off white and red patterned pillows to tie in with the rug and vase picture and also a pillow or two with the color of the border of the carpet and off white.

thanks ingrid. The room actually doesnt have any off white, except maybe for the kitchen granite which has creams, whites and black. The vase picture is light gold, red and black and the rug is gold tones with black as well, so not too sure with the off white working. I wish my camera took better picture with regards to color.

I'd pull colors from your area rug and would not go monochromatic.

I like all the pillows suggested above. You need the cream/off whites to contrast with so much brown.

ETA, I think depending on the print, it could be pretty, especially if you use a solid to balance it out.

I agree about using cream or off-white as the main color. Don't go solid red or gold or even leopard as you're trapping yourself into repeating those two colors.

I have red, olive, and gold LR colors. When we bought a new sofa in a camel color, I put a fabric swatch with it in a warm off-white with a Jacobean pattern in various shades of red, green, and gold. I really liked my main colors against the lighter background, so I ordered pillows. They replaced solid and checked pillows in reds and golds.

And if you used cream or off white maybe that would make you feel better about that color lamp shade. ?

I am planning on going out today to look for pillows, will look for a cream background see how it looks.

I'd pull the pretty jewel tones...the royal blue and the emerald green...from the artwork over the sofa...and throw in a garnet red. Lovely!

So I bought these pillows at Pier One, looks quite good, When I try to take a picture the colors dont come out right, I think I need a new camera. Anyway I am happy with these.

Thanks mayflowers, . I was looking for 3 of the solid blue but they only one two so I went with the flowered one thinking I would probably return it, but actually it is quite nice in the center of the sectional with the striped one in front of it.

That would have been too much solid color with the sofa and ottoman.

They're nice looking and I bet they look great tied in with your new art. Can you post a tada photo! I can't wait to get a solid colored sectional!

Sheeisback, I did post a picture, actually asking opinions if I should keep the pillows or not but after 12 hours with no comments, I deleted it.

thanks outsideplaying and lukkiirish, I really appreciate your comments, I have to admit I was feeling a bit down after I posted and received no comments whether positive or negative about the choices. I have been out all day today looking at more pillows, DH who never usually gives an opinion one way or another told me I should have picked red tones for the pillows. So to appease him, I have ordered the same pillows above but in red tones. They are to come in in a day or two. I will post pictures of both colors and see what you guys thinks. Thanks again for the comment, these pillow choices are harder than I thought they would be.

I bought new pillows for my LR sofa before I went to our new Pier One. They had some nice pillows at better prices than a number of others I'd looked at. Glad you found some you like and are happy with how they are working. I like them too. I could use the first one in my FR (blue sofa or I would say the second one too -- really like that one).

I found fabulous pillows at Country Curtains. But it only took buying about two dozen pillows everywhere else before I settled on the ones from CC. Pier One is great too. I wish you pillow peace!

Of course I haven't seen them in the room, but it seems like you already have enough red and the blue would balance it out which I didn't even realize myself when looking at pillow pictures to post. LOL Now when I try to visualize those in the room, I like it!

Pier One has a fabulous return policy 45 days, longest that I know of. I can bring home a bunch of pillows and have lots of time to decide. The lady told me they were actually starting to get their fall stock in now. I do like the blue, but might be just the shade of the blue that is a little off for me. I like what I have now but dont love it and after spending almost $200 I want to LOVE it :>) I am planning to bring home some different shades of blue as well.

I saw the photo. My fave was the floral. I would have used two and not block them with the striped. The blue were a little intense and I didn't like solids on the ends of the sofa, so the floral would go there instead. I'm not sure if they were big enough to stand alone as sofa pillows, but I'm going by memory.

Good memory mayflowers. I tried those pillows every which way to see how I liked them and this arrangement seem to please me the best so far. I picked the one floral pillow, that is my favourite too, because the rug and the art has a lot of pattern. I didnt want to add too much more but when I pick up the extra pillows I will try some patterned pillows on each end to see how I like it. Interesting when I looked up accent pillows for sectionals on line, OMG, the trend seems to be pillows covering every inch of seating and then to add a basket so guest can remove the pillows when they sit down....LOL.....way too much!!

I sometimes like pillow shopping as much as I like shopping for jeans. :)

I think having blue in the pillows is a good idea and will help tie in the art (which I really like) I'll wait to see, but I think I'll really like the floral ones because they'll add some lightness and it ties in the blue.

I agree to seeing the overload of pillows everywhere. I do think it sometimes looks nice, but I can't deal with that many IRL and once you actually add a few people to the room.... They're also not all going to fit in that 'basket' everyone speaks of unless you smoosh the heck out of them! A tower of pillows on the basket maybe.

I have decided to take back the pillows and start again. The flower pillows as nice as it is I think the pattern is too big and competes with the other patterns in the room and the blue shade is off on the solid ones :>(

I like your point mayflower about putting pattern on the ends but they need to be small pattern fabric and having two pillows instead of one. Thanks for that suggestion. Now back to the drawing board.

I can see how a smaller and more traditional pattern would work better.

This is a terribly dark photo, but I like how they used the square pillow behind and the rectangle in front. That appeals to me more than two squares, which I saw many examples of. I liked the striped ones as they do pull a color from the paintings. I'd try two of those with a solid on the ends and maybe a large square in a smaller print in the middle?

That's a great idea mayflower, thanks for the visual. I really like those lumbar pillows. One of the ones I have on order is below. It doesnt pull the color from the art like the blue one did but does from the ottoman and rug with the gold, red and even brown stripes. I think I am really going to like this one. I may have to build on my collection in time instead of buying everything at once...we'll see.

I didn't see the pic of the pillows with your sofa, but I'm glad you returned them. I really like that blue pillow. I've seen the striped pillow (in the cool shades) in person and it's fine. I think that flowered pillow is too cutesy. BUT, I think you need some red in the mix. JMO!

thanks tina, I really appreciate the comment and you are right, it just took me a day or so to realize those blue pillows werent working for me. While I initially thought I liked them, I think it was just the fact that it looked better than no pillows. I really am a red lover so I hope to find those perfect pillows hopefully sooner than later.

I like those even better! Are they Pier One? They'd work in my home on my cinnamon colored chairs. My paint is a yellow green.
