With not liking veggies and meats, Its hard to imagine much else that you could grow in a garden for yourself.. Some of us out there, make do. Here I have a very small work surface and canning is a big mess every summer as all the big bowls, colanders, pots and such are everywhere. I just put most stuff away now, for next year. MY nxt door neighbor has a huge kitchen now. He had a wall broken down and took over the adjoining bedroom. The kitchen is almost half of her house length. She doesnt do much cooking either, so all that is mostly waste and pretty.. The house was an mirror image of mine, but not anymore, since they added 4 berooms to the new second floor as well. Locally, there is a railroad/insurance salvage buyer calld Building 19. Every once in a while they get some really expensive stuff as these small fancy companies go under. I found a really heavy stainless seet clad bottom pot with glass cover. It even has a small steam vent hole drilled through the glass lid. I would have expected the big pot to sell for over $100, but I got it for under $20. It has slight dent on the bottom/side edge of the clad, but it doesn't affect anything. Its great when I am cooking down 5 gallons of strained tomatoes.

Stainless metal properties could have changed after overheating. Keep in mind these home fixes and best guesses, like scouring salt and lemon paste. If you scratch it with any metal products like scouring pads it will rust later much faster. The tiny metal fibers will be left to rust into the stainless. I would stick to the liquids and pay the money for actual stainless cleaners made for a barbecue. The stainless paste used on fridges is more like a wax and would burn when heating up on the Bbq. I was a welder and we had stainless steel brushes for cleaning the metal, if you used a normal wire brush you could see the rust scratches withing two weeks. I have managed with very hot soapy water and rub with a lint free soft cloth, then another damp cloth to polish dry. That gets the grease, but the liquid polish would make it pretty...but that won't last very long.

Today's mail brought the Frontgate catalog, which featured their professional grill. It looks capable and seems nicely priced at $2,299. I wish I could see one locally, as there's no way I'd make such a major purchase sight unseen. Is anyone here familiar with this grill? Does anyone know who makes it? I would worry about what the heat lamps were doing to the cabinets above...unless there were a few inches of air space b/w the lights & cabinets. Heat would still rise to them, but maybe with that air clearance it wouldn't be too much???? Instead of just putting items to be warmed on the counter, what about a shelf like the ones that come w/the hoods (like Vent-A-Hood)? Maybe you could install one of those rails on your backsplash that you could hang a shelf from...maybe only an inch or two above the counter.... Another couple of options... I handle the Snack Bar at my DS's high school and we have a setup for keeping the hot dogs & BBQ sandwiches warm...it's a stand w/two heat lamps + a commercial serving dish (in SS) that sits on the rack. It keeps the hot dogs & BBQ warm. (We also put the cinnamon buns there sometimes to warm them up...the kids like them warm!)
