Daylilies on a hot Saturday

It sure is hot here today and will get even hotter this afternoon with highs about 95.

Here are some blooming in the garden today.

Heavenly Dark Matter is quite large. I don't know why I cut off the top sepal, though.

Impressionist Sky is just getting going.

Pebble in a Pond is show its pattern today.

Aztec Headdress has its ffo today.

School Bus is a small flowered one.

We almost got rid of Wickedly Wild and Wonderful this year. I do love the bloom, but it doesn't really like our winters. Last winter was a mild one, so it's looking pretty good this year although it is short.

I'm trying to get teeth on miniature flowers. I think this one might be a start. It is Spacecoast Tiny Perfection X Forestlake Ragamuffin. The flower is too large to be classed as a miniature, but the plant is petite and I see some tiny teeth on the edges of petals.

This is Pat Garrity X Gavin Petit. I like the color on this one.

WOW on that Heavenly Dark Matter. I would be interested in hearing how it performs by end of day in your heat (which is our heat now too)- colorfast/sunfast?..........I like your orange sherbert seedling with the teeth. Good color, good form. Congrats..........Maryl

My favorite is your orange with teeth. It will be interesting to see how that one progresses. I like the look of Aztec Headdress in your climate.

Sheila - Thanks for the comments. I'd love to be out in the garden all day, but it's just too hot. I think the daylilies would like to come inside on scorchers like this. Avedon, Celeste and Kay - Duck's Dark Side does have a very commanding presence. Jean and Rita - Although I had two good blooms on the WOIA clump today, three others never opened up. Cindy - I would love to take a photo of the blue and white bed. But it's mostly white this year, with nine plants in all. I set seed on all the blues last year and wore them out. Asian Fairy Bluebird has two wimpy scapes with hardly any buds, and Certulean Warbler is refusing to scape at all this year. Jitterbug Blues has only one scape (albeit wonderfully budded and branched) out of six fans. Orchid Elegance is the only blue with multiple scapes and more than a few buds. Everything in that bed was previous grown in pots in part shade. Planting was done in the fall, which is not optimum in my climate. Next year that garden should be fabulous, but this year not so much. I probably can manage some photos of some of the blue and white blooms together. I would love to see a photo of your black and white bed. Mantis - Crazy Ivan grows like gangbusters here, and I know it does well in Kentucky. I don't know how it performs in Ohio. Debra

It is just that the heat has been oppressive. Well, not the heat but the heat and humidity combined. It is just as hot today, maybe two degress cooler but the humidity is down so I am working in the garden. I am a summer person and I don't mind summer weather until it gets overly oppressive. Yesterday was the worst! Chris that daylily in the backround is Ruby Shadows. Jean, Hearts Of Fire has been blooming for weeks and weeks. I think I I posted a picture of it once. Its only July and that late bloomers bed is blooming. Each year the daylilies seem to start earlier and earlier. I used to have the late bloomers in August but now look. And summers seem to be hotter. Or maybe it's just my old age!

It's great to see how Aztec Headdress does in your zone. I really like your seedlings. I like the fact you have a smaller plant with large flowers, love the small teeth. The color on the last seedling is great!

I also had Heavenly DM bloom today, but a spindly bloom in a pot. The Pat Garrity seedling has more of the shape of Gavin Petit; an interesting color.

Heavenly Dark Matter is my favorite, but there is something I really like about each one. Nice seedlings!
