Congratulations on your move. Nice to have started on your new garden even if it is inside for the winter.

My crinums, varying cultivars, are about 5-6 years old now. The clumps they make cover about 4' in the summer, certainly 3' wide. I am not sure your daylilies will be able to survive after the crinums get going. The crinums will probably be about 2-3' tall, but the leaves on an established clump can grow to over 5' total length, esp. in good soil - they need plenty of room. You almost certainly won't get any flowers this summer, and maybe not next summer. Crinums resent moving and take a while to re-establish themselves. For neighbors, anything tallish and/or spikey, lilies, phlox (may have mildew problems down the road as the crinums enlarge, so pick resistant cultivars), coneflowers, rudbeckias, agastache, etc., etc.. One or another of the tallish grasses might be nice, either an upright form for contrast, or a mounding one for texture contrast.

I am another one to find this blog really really late. I just moved south from the Philly area and am just nuts about the pink crinum lilies =ever since I saw them in a garden tour here in beaufort, SC. I drive down to Delray Beach to take care of my mother in law's house several times a year and if anyone out there has some to share I would love to come a get a couple. Susan

So I have Cheryl to thank for my variegated Hibiscus! Wow - mine is taking off, too! Very full and bushy, and perhaps 1 foot tall so far. It's amazing how much the shape of the foliage resembles its cousin, the Rose of Sharon (but not the wild colors, of course!) Cheryl, do you know the exact genus and species name for this plant? And what kind of care does it want in its pot indoors this winter? -Regina
