Looks like blueberries, to me. Squish a ripe berry and smell it. If so, the former owner left you a nice gift.

Doesn't look like any blueberries I'm familiar with. Stems look too long, for one thing, blossom end of fruit is different & blueberries aren't furry, AFAIK...

Leaf serration is wrong for blueberry, close for aronia and juneberry but those are some big berries for serviceberry.

It is NOT a blueberry!! And aronia fruit does usually appear late season. I'd consider an Amelanchier or serviceberry - this is often called 'Juneberry' as it produces its fruit quite early in the season.....like now :-) And very tasty they are, too! Doggie knows what's good!

Its one of the small fruited crabapples imo. To prove it cut one across the 'equator'. You should find 5 or so seeds in a star arrangement just like in an eating apple but on a tiny scale. Not a stone nor multiple seeds.

Not to question floral's usually dead-on ID's but I am unaware of any crabapple that produces dark purple-blue fruit - they are typically reddish to yellow in color, like apples - nor one that would produce that fruit in June. I'm sticking with the amelanchier/Juneberry!!

GG I don't think the photo colour is accurate. Even the leaves have a bluish tinge and the pictures look rather misty. I believe the fruit are a dark burgundy/purple shade and the leaves are also dark. There are plenty of crabs with small dark red/purple fruit. I am also taking into account the leaf shape, leaf arrangement, branching habit and bark (look at those lenticels). If the OP will do the simple test I suggest the answer will become clear.

I had only looked at one picture before I decided on the id. Now I've looked at them all I am even more sure.

Hey everyone, thank you all for the helpful comments! These definitely aren't blueberries--they are quite firm despite the dark purple color and they do not have the same type of indent on the end as most blueberries (where the flower used to be). I was thinking it might be either a prunus or some kind of a serviceberry--but just wanted to make sure this wasn't something like a (poisonous) buckthorn.... Later this afternoon I'll cut one of the berries open to see what is inside, and maybe that will help narrow things down. The color in the picture is fairly accurate--fruit are dark purple, leaves are dark green with red/purple. This is some sort of an ornamental bush, too--someone planted it intentionally for looks, judging by the rest of the yard and the bush itself.

I believe serviceberries have the same indent as blueberries so rule that out

Another vote for some kind of crabapple. A google image search for 'purple crabapple' will display a bunch of varieties with purple fruit. Don't know which it would be, though, but I don't think any of them are poisonous.
