...do dogs (and dog walkers) treat your roses like fire hydrants?
Comments (37)Yep, pee is a great fert...but not neat. Diluted by at least 10:1 it is a sovereign plant food...and I do clamber on top of the compost hill for a pee when no-one is around. Truthfully, I find the hidden cat presents far, far worse than any doggie droppings...nothing much wrecks your day as much as plunging your ungloved hands into the soil only to sniff (and feel) that unmistakeable odour of felis domesticus...and if dogs were allowed as much free reign as cats, not to mention the slaughter, they would be caged and muzzled. Always a bit problematic since here in the UK, cats tend not to be house cats as they often are in the US (and not something I could personally condone anyway) and since one's own cats rarely use their own abode as a toilet, it is always a cause of neighbourly wrath in my part of the world when catching that huge red tom from down the road, squatting in my troughs again....See MoreTell me about your dog beds
Comments (19)Boop, my friend just bought her pug a heated dog bed, I'll see her tomorrow and ask how he likes it. My idiotas have Costco beds, but prefer the sofas or my bed, if they can get to it. But at night, they do actually sleep on their beds. I have a small dog bed with a removable cushion that now sits in the hall outside my bedroom that one of the dogs uses at night. But my lab Max thinks the cushion is a toy and tries to go run with it. My biggest problem is the beds moving all over the floor, so I'm thinking I might steal a Pinterest idea and apply caulk to the bottom of the beds, should make them non-slip on the floor....See MoreDog sleeping in bed question
Comments (10)It sounds like the dog was smart enough to get on the bed after the alarm went off and hubby got up. What confused him was when hubby was gone and he got to spend the entire night. Needless to say, hubby doesn't want to be waked up at 4 in the morning. That's why he's objecting to the dog on the bed. So go back to the original plan. If hubby goes out of town again, don't let the dog get on the bed until the alarm actually goes off. Otherwise she'll have to spend time retraining the dog every time hubby comes back from a trip. The dog knows he has to wait for the alarm and your friend still gets her snuggle time. Don't change the rules and confuse the dog. As far as a dog on a bed. It's her bed, if she wants to pet the dog in the morning, why not?...See MoreDo you let your aggresive dog off-leash???
Comments (20)Interesting thread for me. I have a large, "in your face" dog. He's neutered, very vocal, and wasn't very well socialized as a "young 'un"; adopted at a year and half we've worked really hard on obedience training. His smooth, short coat clearly shows "hackles" whenever he's excited (it doesn't mean he's "aggressive"!). There is no dog park in my community. But if there was one, I wouldn't take him there. He's too big, too scarey looking, and there is no way I'd frighten other dog owners by turning him loose. I sure as hell wouldn't do it when he'd not had time to burn off some "steam"! I love to see him romp and roughhouse with other dogs, but I'd rather that happened with dogs I know in "territories" the dogs know than in the wide open, "up for grabs" expanses of a dog park. At this point in our journey with our dog, it wouldn't be a FUN and relaxing time for anyone. Why "go there"?...See MoreJudyG Designs
