I'm here with iced tea. Boy is it ever hot here. Spent the morning doing the yard and then a friend came over and we dug up some plants that are in my way. So I'm ready for a good long rest now.

I have the heat heading my way for this weekend. Yesterday and today have been glorious - temps in the low to mid 70's. The pups and I have been spending quality time on the front porch. I love it. I also have gotten some weeds and a little edging done in the back garden. The neighbors I share the back fence with are away on vacation and her dad is staying in the house taking care of the dog. I met him over the fence yesterday and he was so nice. We had some honeysuckle starting to make a comeback and I cut what I could from my side and asked him if he would do the same. I ended up lending him my pruning shears and he took care of it right away!! :) I love when the neighbors are nice and helpful!!

The other fun thing I did today was go to the antique mall with a friend and I found this teacup and saucer and the teacup has a lid! I have seen a teapot over a cup and have a couple of those, but I've never seen a cup with a lid. It's very pretty, I think.

Almost missed Wednesday Tea. Tuesday was totally out of the question for me. Chemo day for Joe. I do not even remember the rest of the day but I was super busy.

The heat has been here too and I have been watering from early morning to dark thirty. Dang I was going to mow the lawns tonight and forgot. Tomorrow is another day. Sigh. Super windy here tonight and that is a welcome relief from the heat of the day.

Plans for the week. Sewing some of those 3/4 pants from some jeans. Altering two weird blouses I thought would be cute when I ordered them and they are not. NOW they will work great with sleeves altered. Lots of cleaning up in the house. A little bit of glass work on Lizzzie. I seem to start everything ass backwards.

Also made the last batch of cement leaves today. I do not know where the days go.I wake up and can hardly wait for bed time. Busy from beginning to end and not even sure what I did or planned. I just do and do and do. I will have to pull it together by August to have the house ready for Joe's sisters visit.

LL I am right there with you in painting the kitchen We got the paint last week and I have not even started. Will get into that one of these days soon. I am excited about it. Was just trying to finish so many other loose ends before I started another project. I feel like such an air head lately. ARGH

I am having Harneys Cinnamon Spice tea only it is iced. Too hot here for hot tea.

I forgot yesterday was Tues. the directv guy had to come here cause I couldn't get the cable detached from my old dead box. I've been watching shows online for 3 wks hoping Jed would get here... I gave up and called directv for help... I had to put dog in her pen. she hasn't been in there for a few yrs. She could see him working outside on the dish and barked at him.

He went ahead and connected all the parts and set it up for me. thought the pic wasn't that good so went out to fiddle with the dish and cables out there. Gave me a new remote. good thing - the old one was losing the markings on the buttons. i'll have to pack up the old box/remote and send back to them next week.

after he left I brought dog in and took a nap. then I think I watched a movie and took another nap...

it's been over 100 here so I'm not going out much. I'm gonna try to go out Friday. that when I can drop my trash at my sister's. I didn't get there yesterday with mr directv man here so I'd better go by there on Fri.

Such an exciting life here on the desert dirt...

We're having a brief respite from the heat here in SC, but it's on its way. Up in the mountains, some areas are in the upper 40's this AM. We may hit triple digits on Sunday. Our normal summer high is about 90, and it's very humid heat, so 100 is downright dangerous.

Our little raised bed is going great guns. We've harvest basil for pesto three times already. I can see it trying to go to seed already, though. I'm going to start some new seed for a later crop. We've picked green beans twice, and there's probably one more full picking before they're done. Fresh, really fresh green beans are a treat! The peppers and tomatoes are getting loaded up with fruit, although harvest is a ways off yet.

Back to the urologist this AM. Still dealing with the side effects of my surgery. Not fun. I've been busy applying for jobs, as I need to work a few more years before retirement. It sure is a different world today. I took a 2 hour test at GE, which was basically a pysch evaluation. Everyone wants you to apply on-line, and it's a long process filling out all of the forms. In the old days, I just walked in the door, talked to the shop foreman, and they usually ended up saying, "When can you start?" I'm going to be picky about where I work, as I don't want to finish my career being miserable every day.

Things have certainly changed Jay; seems like everything is done online these days. We're having trouble finding a short term rent house because no one puts ads in the local paper anymore.

Have you found any age discrimination in your search? I told a friend just yesterday that I'd like to go back to work but as long as I've been out of work and my age (60), it's unlikely. I think I'm going to do secret shopping though. I signed up before all this stuff with my eyes and then had to drop it.

It's gonna be hard to tell if it's age discrimination or not. One problem I have is a 4 year gap in my employment, which is an automatic 'No' in many places. I changed my resume, listing all of the work I did building my house as if it were a job (it was, after all) and putting in plenty of buzz words about managing the project. Still, it's not the kind of work I normally do, but at least it shows that I've been busy.

I'm on my way out the door for a garden club meeting, but I wanted to ask Jay...have you put together a skills resume? We used to do these when I taught economics (briefly) at ITT. It emphasizes your skills and accomplishments in order, then your education and work history. In fact, some skills resumes just mention skills and more information available upon request.

It doesn't work well with internet apps, but it looks great if you're mailing in resumes. And some people still prefer that. Look for a smaller company that doesn't have an HR office. Someone has to read all these...and if that someone doesn't have a lot of time, a skills resume makes them very happy! Easy to read and right to the point...what can he/she actually do?

I feel for you Jay. There ARE advantages to being older. So glad I am finally out of the work force.

Had a good interview, and I think the job is mine if I want it. I really want to get my health issues nailed down a bit better before I start, and see what my other job applications turn up. I think I would be happy working there, though.

I'm still in Arkansas. The heat and humidity - and lack of Internet - are killing me! I have to sneak off to Wendy's every third day and use theirs.

I may head home tomorrow. Long, hot drive; I'll catch up then.

Greetings from Asheville, NC! I'm on a road trip with DH. This is our first stop at my sisters. Our brother and his wife are busting as well.

No tea, but we just hot back from having dessert at a local ice cream parlor.

Just came in from picking strawberries. There probably won't be another picking; maybe a handful. It's hot here today. Tomorrow worse. I haven't turned on the a/c yet because we have a good breeze. My cousin's retirement party 60 miles away tomorrow night. It doesn't sound as appealing now as it did a few days ago.

Why doesn't my second hand/antique store/consignment shop ever have anything cute like that cup? Ditto for my craigslist. Although........there was vintage furniture advertised a couple of weeks ago and it was sitting on the perfect vintage carpet. I called. The house will be sold. I contacted all the local realtors to tell them if they got the listing I would talk to the new owner about buying some carpet.

that was a very good idea! you did do all of those things - and on your own. no need to tell them you were boss. tho, that's what others who operate a bz have to 'resume'. that was such a tremendous accomplishment!

it'll come... maybe you could throw out a date in 2-4 wks and see what their reaction is. you could just be needing time to 'clear up loose ends' so you'll be totally on your toes at a new job. you can think of a better way of wording that. some days I struggle with my name - lol! ok, not quite that bad yet but I did think yesterday was Thurs and Friday! I started out going out to do errands to leave Friday clear for trash day... but before I left I put trash in the car to take to my sister's. Friday is trash day. her bin was out so by the time I got home I was very confused about what day it was...

I'm another one who is so glad not to be in the work world anymore. I wasn't when I was first disabled (when I was awake to think about it) even tho I knew I couldn't hold a job anymore. now when I look around at what is going on in places - heck, I hardly want to go out to do errands anymore.
