How much can you afford to lose?

This is the Warranty. You're well past the 2 year point. The electronic boards are expensive.

I would make sure it is transferable and that the appliance is the age they say it is. You are bound to use their repair people if it is under warranty in any way. In my experience they would not give me any estimate for labor, but only a starting point. I have since talked to another repair person and they were thinking it would be twice the starting point but you are at their mercy.

Depends on how much you're paying for it, and whether the seller will wait to be paid until you get it plugged in at your site and cooling. One of the main reasons for the 1 year warranties that are standard on almost every appliance is that even if they're tested in the factory (though mostly they just test samples, I think), things can shake loose in shipping and get otherwise damaged. Moving fridges can be problematic.

It might be worth the gamble if you're spending the same as a cheap fridge from the big box store. Usually, SubZeroes convey with the house because they're built in, and people remodel around them, rather than pulling them out if they're still functional, so why is it being sold in the first place?

Yes, thats a good point. We also wondered why they pulled out their SZ to replace it? Ugh, at $3K its a big gamble.

I think $3K is way too much for a seven year old fridge, even a 36" integrated one with two exterior freezer drawers. I think that's the one without an ice maker, too. The ice maker is the most difficulty prone, and repair needing, part of any freezer, but most people don't want to be without it. Thinking through the numbers, that might actually be what the depreciated worth of the fridge is, but who besides your brother who feels sorry for you pays up the full depreciated worth? Plus you'd have delivery and installation costs, even if you do it yourself.

I had no idea it was without an ice maker. That would be a deal breaker in any case, and I'm glad to know $3K is a bit high. I'll move on and keep looking for another one. Thanks for your help!

The seller would have to confirm about the ice maker, though I think that's the model number, I can't be sure, though (obviously) I think you've made the right decision.

3k is very high for a used unit of that age. It retailed in the high 6s as recently as 2 years ago when it was replaced.

For a used unit of that age you should be paying $1500-2k roughly. MAX. I have been involved in a few second hand units. For $1500 it's worth the risk. For $3k roll that into a miele or thermador or subzero it36.

Also if you do buy it make sure you make the opening and the door panels 84" high. The 736 was shorter and they no longer make that height. This will help when it needs to be replaced.
