NEW: You're invited to a Bridal Shower! (irishrosegrower)
Comments (46)Hi gals. Trish, I'm sorry I didn't see your posts until today, I thought this thread was gone... I am so happy it is spring myself! Daffs are finally open. I like the pic of you smelling your first spring bloom. Jess sent me a lovely package from bath & body works with my favorite fragrance --sweet pea--. It is so nice, has body spray, bubble bath, gel, hand lotion, etc. it's in a pretty green ceramic planter too! Jess == you are very thoughtful and this was very sweet of you to do. Thanks a bunch. Trish - thanks for the iris. Glad it's warming up for you. It did start to warm up here, then yesterday the rain turned to snow for a while ??? it's arpril isn't it? Comments (7)I think gag gifts should be cheap and creative and generally something you "make" (or re-purpose). Do you sew? You could take an ordinary-looking flannel nightgown make it really racy... cut an opening in the back from the bottom to about halfway up (actually cut away some material so that the wearer's legs will be exposed, then edge it with lace and frill it up. Maybe add something like a fluffy bunny-tail at the top of the cut-out? :p Get a small box and fill it with "Do not disturb" signs! :) Edit: Just found this idea on E-How... Make a 'Rug Burn Prevention Kit'. They suggest using a child's plastic lunch box, but you could use anything suitable -- even an ordinary box. Label it "Rug Burn Prevention Kit" and fill it with things like knee pads, knuckle protectors, antibacterial ointment and bandages. (actually, with those contents, it would be a 'rug burn prevention and treatment kit'.) This post was edited by party_music50 on Sat, Apr 5, 14 at 20:47...See MoreHelp with bridal shower
Comments (60)I can see both sides of the favor/no favor discussion.. I think it is nice to offer a thoughtful small gift to guests of a shower. Not all gatherings-- but a shower, yes. What is considered "nice" or "thoughtful" will vary greatly by region, age group, personality of the bride/mother-to-be, and personality of the event... so my recommendation is to do them if you have a good idea that seems to have wide appeal. Skip it if you don't. I just wouldn't fret over it. A number of years ago, I hosted a baby shower with a sweet pea theme. It was an outdoor buffet with no place settings so I setup a basket full of sweetpea seed packets as favors for guests. It helped decorate a table.. and it fit the event... and guests loved it. I don't like chocolate (and I especially don't like m&m's) but I know a number of grown women (and men) who would tear into a gift of m&m's. A number of our small little chocolate shops and bakeries will do little boxes that I'd absolutely use as favors for an event with a sit-down meal. I would not give any kind of decor item-- or anything that costs more than $5-$7/person....See MoreBridal Shower Etiquette
Comments (30)WOW we are OLD, that is my take away from this thread. I have been to ONE graduation party where the thank you's were there in a basket the mother of the nephew handed as we said our good byes. TACKY for sure. At the time I racked it up to; well my sister knows her son. He wasn't about to write thank you notes. He did improve with age, we got a very nice thank you for his wedding gift. As the hostess I applaud you for your ability to keep to your values in your home. Please leave this bride to her own sensibilities. It is not your job to be involved in her thank you notes. Pre-written or other wise!! The question is now that you have said no, will she bring her own bowl of thank you scrolls? That would do me in. Your original question mentioned Etiquette. I know of no "expert" on such things that would give a recipient permission to not reply in writing a specific and heart felt thank you. A "generic thank you for coming " IS NOT A THANK YOU NOTE!...See Moremaddielee
