To seal or not to seal? Peach Tree Borer

tiera001

Yes, I neglected my peach tree and now I have learned the consequences of doing so. I have a borer problem. I cleaned out as much gunk as I could, poked a thin metal wire into the holes and cleaned out the dirt and mulch away from the base of the tree. The tree itself looks quite healthy and is full of peaches.

I will be very vigilant in spraying from now on. My question is whether I should seal the lower trunk/base of the tree. I keep reading mixed opinions

and I'm not sure if it will help or hurt the tree. And on top of that, if I do seal the tree should I use laytex paint or a commercially bought pruning sealer? I'm hoping that if I'm vigilant in spraying at the correct times, the tree will eventually repair itself. Any thoughts or opinions on the matter?

Thanks!
