How to get the shampoo smell out of a chair?
Comments (0)Hey all, I bought an office chair from Craigslist and decided to clean it. The cushions are covered in fabric, not leather. I bought a can of carpet/upholstery cleaner at Walgreens (I know, probably a big mistake), the kind with the brush on top. I rubbed a lot of the shampoo into the cushions, scrubbed it, and then wiped it off with a damp towel. It cleaned the cushions just fine. The only problem is that now the chair stinks of shampoo. It smells like dog shampoo. Yuck! Even worse, it makes my clothes smell like the shampoo. So sad! I've tried washing the cushions with club soda. Had limited success with this, but the chair still smells! Is there any way I can get this smell out of the chair? Will it go away on its own? Or is the situation hopeless? Thanks for your time & help!...See MoreCan't get smell out of clothes- please help!
Comments (21)I think you might be holding it against the product because they stated it on the label. Which cycle do you think the fabric softener comes in to play? Ever wonder why there are seperate compartments for bleach, detergent and fab con? The reason is the wash cycle takes in Detertergent first, then bleach and then fabric softener is released in the rinse cycle :) As far as the chemicals are concerned, I know this because I have been working with chemicals and labelling regulations all my life. I work as a scientist in New York, I am a Bio Chem PhD from UMich... Products that kill germs (Lysol, Clorox etc) are regulated by the EPA which means by US law they are mandated to list ingredients on pack thus you will see ingredient details. Other products like detergents, oxies, fabric softeners dont kill germs hence not regulated by EPA or government and thus you might never see whats on the inside :)...See MoreHow to get dog smell out of leather furniture?
Comments (1)Newspapers or magazines are good at absorbing odor. Failing that, remember that leather absorbs the odor of the last thing that was in it. So if you have just had a bath, put on cologne quite heavily and sit in the chair, it should absorb that but I have found that witch hazel works best. All you have to do is wet a piece of absorbent cotton (even a bath cloth if it is cotton) in witch hazel and wiped the chair with it. Don't wet the cloth much, just dampen it and repeat. Then use your regular leather treatment on it....See MoreGetting detergent smell out of clothes
Comments (7)Wash in hot water..no detergent. If you have any white vinegar add a cup to the wash cycle. It won't remove anything but may neutralise. Only thing you can really do is wash until scent is gone. No need to add any detergent. Eventually after a few washes it should be gone....See Moregeorgect
