Messed up backsplash...re-doing it! Help!
Comments (54)Well, I went to the tile stores again yesterday. I brought home a few more samples. I also found a blog called tile tramp (tiletramp@gmail.com). She does free on-line consultations. All you do is send her a picture and what your looking for. Anyway, I included what she thought would look good in my kitchen. (They did not have that particular sample at my store-its kind of swirly). She also suggested the one that I have already had at home (Walker Zanger Hollywood). So, I brought that home again ungrouted. I think the dark grout in the first sample was really throwing me. (It is the tile in the middle). The tile on the left would have to be a different marble but I thought I might as well try it. Lastly, the one on the right is called interlocking circles from mission stone tile. My concern with that is that the circles are going to be 18 inches in diameter when it is all done. (My dimensions are about 32 x 60). The picture with one sample in it is marble with clear glass by artistic. Any thoughts? Monday is decision day. I feel like I have seen it all at this point. Comments (25)didn't have time to read all the answers. I have no backsplash and have never regretted it...been over 6 yrs. It is painted with BM matte...which has ceramic in it. It is as beautiful now as it was when first painted. I love the fact that I can showcase other things ...art etc in my kitchen and no competition. Also if I ever want to change it is as quick as a paint brush...expense is minimal..paint only ! All in all I think it is serene as you point out . Here is one pick. Since I have a lot of high heat cooking in my kitchen..built in deep fat fryer as well as gas cook top I can definitely speak to the longevity of paint only. c ( more at this album )...See MoreDid I mess up the backsplash
Comments (17)I am not sure just exactly what you are asking. I can't really see any flaws in the installation, maybe someone with better eyesight and screen resolution will. If you are asking if you made the right choice of tile for your counter and cabinets, well... I'd say no. Because the cool grey doesn't complement the warm counter, and the busy pattern of small tiles argues with the busy counter. Yup, I agree. I think the pattern in the granite and the backsplash tile are too similar in size and feel, and -- as a result -- they clash. One should be the star while the other plays a secondary part, and that's not happening here. Bah, if everyone listened to Maria KillamKillam the world would be a sea of white. Her color theory is spot on, but her insistence upon a certain set of colors being the best is obnoxious. Yeah, if her work were called "Things I Like", that'd be one thing, but she thinks every project should follow the same set of rules; subsequently, all her projects look the same. I like the idea of a set of guidelines one can follow to assure things match (because color is my nemesis), but she comes across as more of a "one trick pony"....See MoreNow the backsplash is messed up!
Comments (30)Lovely! Thanks for the photos. I hope you have all smooth sailing from now on! I'm using a mix of mostly matte tiles but with some glossy. I just got the tile. DH is starting the install tomorrow. I don't see a lot of matte, so your pretty result was great to see!...See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
