Comments (6)Whether you do a sidesplash or not, I absolutely agree with pamelah that the solid backsplash is the way to go (rather than tile). Honestly, I prefer to go without sidesplash in general. However, if you feel like the sidesplash is important (either functionally or visually), I think what they are proposing looks just fine, not like a mistake at all. My vote would first be to go with just the backsplash (no sidesplash) with the curved design symmetrical on both sides. My next choice would be to go with exactly what is in your drawing. I think either choice would be lovely and will just depend on your visual preference and functional needs. Regardless, your vanities are beautiful and your countertops are stunning!...See MoreNow that the backsplash tiles are down...
Comments (3)We just had this exact situation. The builder put down some sort of paste that looked like the type of putty you use on drywall, but it was thicker and more durable than that. He sanded that down and it looked ok while we waited for new tiles. Today they did the backsplash tile, using regular adhesive. Sorry that is totally vague and not very useful! My main point is just to say that you might not need new drywall. I can find out more details if you need them....See MoreCounter picked, now need backsplash. Ideas???
Comments (16)It's what you like. That being said, you did ask for our opinion. If you want a beautiful beach kitchen, I think that I would pick counters that looked like sand and somewhere, on the walls or the tile a beautiful calm steely blue. I really like Socalthreems color on her walls. Maybe a little lighter on your walls. http://ths.gardenweb.com/forums/load/kitchbath/msg021905448463.html?38 Maybe if you found a simple ocean blue glass tile. Your cabinets are beautiful and very elegant. I think that to honor them, you can add color, but it must be understated. I like the colors in this picture. I think they would look great in your kitchen. Remember, you can keep the kitchen colors calm (like a calm ocean) and you can add other color with accessories. I would try to make your base colors more timeless. Again, only my opinion. I just pictured a perfect backsplash. I calm glazed steely blue tile with a raise white glaze border that mimics the foam on the waves or maybe.....gee I can't even make up my mind for me...and I'm doing it for you? LOL Here is a link that might be useful: tropical picture...See MoreDid I mess up the backsplash
Comments (17)I am not sure just exactly what you are asking. I can't really see any flaws in the installation, maybe someone with better eyesight and screen resolution will. If you are asking if you made the right choice of tile for your counter and cabinets, well... I'd say no. Because the cool grey doesn't complement the warm counter, and the busy pattern of small tiles argues with the busy counter. Yup, I agree. I think the pattern in the granite and the backsplash tile are too similar in size and feel, and -- as a result -- they clash. One should be the star while the other plays a secondary part, and that's not happening here. Bah, if everyone listened to Maria KillamKillam the world would be a sea of white. Her color theory is spot on, but her insistence upon a certain set of colors being the best is obnoxious. Yeah, if her work were called "Things I Like", that'd be one thing, but she thinks every project should follow the same set of rules; subsequently, all her projects look the same. I like the idea of a set of guidelines one can follow to assure things match (because color is my nemesis), but she comes across as more of a "one trick pony"....See MoreKippy
