Help! Al's Gritty Mix: crushed granite alternative?
Comments (23)Here you go Ruby! The pictures I promised you of my gardenias in the gritty mix. Notice the coloring and buds. They love the gritty mix! This one was tiny since the start of using the gritty mix This one was a cutting I started just this summer. This one was also a cutting. I bought it as a 2inch high high plant in a 2 inch pot!lol. It grew a lot over the summer. It is a special one and a rare one. It opens Yellow flowers and is very sweet. I won't take a chance of loosing this one to a peaty mix. Gritty all the way. This is my frost proof one. I am determined not to loose this one too. This one was saved from MG! It almost died when I first heard of the gritty mix and I desperately transplanted it into the gritty mix with the kind help of Al and Josh and look at it now. Here is a group shot of many other plants in the gritty mix. ALL were bare rooted and many have very sensitive roots. They all did fine:-) You plants will do fine if you listen to the friends here. By the way,Josh has made some more very important points. I wish you success. Mike...See MoreLooking for built-in frig with crushed ice / water dispenser
Comments (7)The ice maker is the most delicate part of any fridge, and the through door units take up a lot of space and make the concerns that much worse. Not the best idea for a fridge you expect to last for more than twenty years. Combine that with the fact that people get built-ins in order to have them blend into the cabinetry, and you start to understand why there just isn't a lot of demand. If you use the ice/water dispenser on daily basis, you'll probably want to keep it. If it's less often, you might consider using an ice crusher (small appliance) or a garage sale food processor for that part. SubZero does have an ice dispenser on the 48" side-by-side, but as I said, it's the weakest link. The only thing on an SZ that most people find needs service over its lifetime is the ice maker, and the through door ones seem to need service sooner. (Just an observation on frequency--check with their repair service for first hand knowledge.) Here's a search on AJMadison for custom panels and through door ice. I don't know which of these have crushed ice and water. Some of these aren't built-in models, but you could do a faux if one of the suits you....See MoreFirst crush in z8/9

Comments (64)This is difficult to narrow down. Here goes: Book: "To Kill a Mockingbird". I read it at least once a year. Song: "Till There Was You" , Beatles. DH and I used to sing it to our babies. He would play it on the guitar and we would both sing. Maybe that's why they went to sleep so quickly-to escape our singing! Movie: Dr. Zhivago. On a snowy night DH and I went to see the movie and were only a handful of those who braved the storm to see it. It was in an old theater with the red velvet drapes around the screen. It was a very romantic, memorable date night! History behind Dr. Zhivago...See Moreamykath
