The Porter Paints that katiee511 was referring to is based in Louisville, KY (I grew up down the way from The Porter family), completely different animal. They are now owned by a British Company (cortault coatings). I also have a love of F&B. I used it in a bedroom (Borrowed Light) of a previous home. Gorgeous! However as often as I move and renovate, it's completely cost prohibitive for me (near 3x's what I would spend on BM aura for the same room). I try to use it in small applications. (I hope to use Minster Green on my front door). I could pour over their paint chips all day. **katiee511- I read more carefully and just realized you are painting cabinetry, for some reason I had it in my mind it was trim (I must have been really slow yesterday :), afterall you I was in the *KITCHEN* forum!) It must be that ADHD that mindstorm was referring to! If "Velvet White" isn't what you had in mind (ie too bright) and you want something a little more creamy/golden check out a color called "Indian Ivory." If you are going to have PP on the walls, I would definitely suggest Silken Touch, even if its a slight upcharge as ccinindiana had mentioned. So you won't have to repaint too soon (unless you choose). What part of IN? **ccinindiana- Congrats on your colors, I am sure you are releived to have that behind you. I am using Behr primer with paint on my cabinets and in the process of wet-sanding them down to a nice polish. We like the paint color and just stayed with Behr cause this is what we started with. After a few coats, the paint definitely needs time to dry between coats. I made the mistake of putting one on top of the other after a few days of drying and the paint stuck together. But once their are hung on the cabinets we will use those gel pads on our doors to prevent the doors from rubbing against the bases. All in all- I wish I would have done more research on the paint- but we just stuck with the paint to keep it uniformed. I finally gathered enough courage to talk to a local painter about getting a better polish on my cabinets and he told me about wet-sanding! Do your research and another thing he told me; paint with a brush and THEN back roll... don't dip your roller in the paint- just back roll... Before In the process...

Grahams Flat used to be all I used for flat washable paint. This was before BM Regal Matte was around. We stopped using it after Muralo bought Grahams and pretty much ruined it. Of course this could be a coincidence that the quality of Grahams declined after Muralo purchased them but as painters we really see this sort of thing all the time when one company buys another. My brothers paint store where I buy 90 percent of my paint claims that they still sell a ton of Grahams Flat though even though myself and a few other painters I know stopped using it. Don't be fooled though....it is not a dead flat. It has some sheen, as do pretty much all washable flats. I would not recommend using it on ceilings if you are looking for a no-sheen finish. It's been at least 3 years since I last used Grahams Flat though so I can't be sure what the quality of it is today. I use the BM Regal Matte for now and it's okay, but not as good as the old formulation of Grahams Flat...I really miss it. Maybe the best paint available now for washable flats would be BM Aura Matte? I have only used the eggshell so far, but that may be worth checking into if you don't mind spending that kind of money on paint.

When I bought my old house back in 1991, I lived with white walls that came with the place in the living/dining/hallway. I did immediately change out the trim in the kitchen to country blue, from its original white. All the bedrooms and baths were gray. I got rid of that nonsense ASAP. Depressing! (I also made sure not to paint those rooms white, either... white does NOT have to be everywhere.) Grey is fine when you are visiting someone -- you are concentrating on your friends, after all; but on a day to day... nope, not here, not no ways. I will also note that grey did not work in a home that got no eastern sunrise sun (big hill behind the house). If you get more natural light during the day, gray will wear better. In my current house, I've painted many walls SW Canvas Tan, which is considered a warm white. I even painted my ceilings Canvas Tan throughout. I find it very restful and better than the old stark white of my old home. Art goes very well with Canvas Tan, too.
