Another Bouquet for Sunday Service
Comments (15)Thank you Kitty! I do have a lot of reds in the garden and also find it difficult to find the right place for them. I like to have something purple near my reds, 'Peacock' Butterfly Bush, purple Delphiniums, Verbena Bonariensis, Salvias etc. I also like reds next to yellow. Golden Celebration, Charles Darwin etc. make a very nice backdrop for red roses (in my opinion). Red and white is a little bit too starch for me, but I still have couple of groups in this color combo. In this case I like to play with different types of flowers - large blooms vs. small flowers in clusters. Also, in this situation, I like to use companion plants like Gypsophila, white Delphinium, white Salvia, red Persicaria... This year I found new white Salvia 'Snow Hill', its is really lovely and looks particularly great with roses (of different colors). Thank you once again, Marina...See MoreThanks for the tip, and another tip
Comments (2)Unscented clay kitty litter -- a scant handful will mark the spot where bulbs are planted. Oil-dri, used for garage floor spills, will do the same. I potted 6 tulip bulbs in each of two pots yesterday and put in the the extra fridge. They'll finish 12 weeks of chill on Jan. 4 and be ready to come out into the open. Every year I vow to plant no more tulips and every year I cave in when bulbs are available. Hyacinths and daffodils are a much better buy in this warm climate. Comments (5)mongo, thanks...the bath is half-finished, has been that way for years. I wish I had gotten to know them *before* they went to a huge amount of trouble (calling their kids in from all over the country) to help install the evidently huge jacuzzi the grandmother wanted...she has had it in for two years now and still can't use it because she can't get out of it :( I would have suggested that they consider a walk/roll-in shower, actually, even though it would have meant giving up her dream of a therapeutic soak at home--it would have been *so* much easier. I have to think they thought of that and decided against it. But the tub's already in. Insurance might be more convinceable if a group like the VNA or some other group (or her doctor!) made a formal recommendation--I'll see what they've done along those lines. They do know they don't quality for charity agency help. Thanks, Bill. I'll pass that idea on to the family....See MoreYet another tipping question
Comments (9)I once was told by a salon owner to not tip him. I guess because all of what the owner charges goes to that person (even though they have expenses), but with someone working for the owner - a portion of their income goes to the owner. I tip 20% to my hairstylist and also the massage therapist I go to. I recently went to a new massage therapist and did not have much cash with me that day and I always use my card. I should clarify that both my hairstylist and the massage therapist have card thingies set up in their name - it does not go through the shop. My hairstylist knows to let me add tip to the charge, but the therapist didn't. So on my first visit, she didn't get a tip. I didn't have the correct amount to tip her in cash, and she didn't have change (LOL!!). So, Pesky, the next time I saw her, I simply doubled the tip to make up for the previous visit. She does a fabulous job, works me in, and has done wonders for a shoulder/muscle problem I was having. I usually use my card, unless I know they would prefer cash, but that's simply for my own convenience. tina...See Morealways1stepbehind
