my new hoya baby 'Kentiana'
Comments (12)Susan, i'm gonna have to talk to Ric, he mentioned wanting to do a trade but never told me he had this plant. Looks like he's been holding back on me!!!! No really Ric's a good guy and an excellent trade partner. I've been dealing with him for several years now and have never been disappointed with anything that he's sent to me and he often sends extras. Sue if I stopped buying hoyas life wold have no meaning!!!! I'm a junkie and I admit it!!! hoyas are very muck like crack for me ( and no i've never done the real thing) maybe I need an intervention!!!! I can only imagine what it's like for a drug addict trying to get off of whatever it is that they're on because I know what it wold be like for me if I couldn't get any new hoyas for a year!!!! I'd most likely be down at the funny farm in one of those tight white jackets with my arms wrapped around my back jumping up and down and bouncing off the walls!!!!! Denise, the second listing could have very easily been overlooked as there was only one listing separating the 2 kentianas. If you scrolled down too fast like I did the first time I saw the listing, chances are you went right over it without even knowing. The last plant with the option to buy now is gone and it was a forum member who got it because they sent me an email jokingly saying that they need to be hung from the highest tree for letting me lead them into temptation!!!! Mike this is also new to me. I am aware that the Thai's have a new variegated form of hoya obscura (which they are clinging tightly to) but this one apparently has been riding under the radar for a while especially if someone has a plant of it large enough to propagate already. I want to know how the plant came about. Was it just some vines on a mother plant that had variegation on them or did man have a hand in it. I don't know just how true this is but I was told some years ago, from a source who should know that if seeds from a plant were exposed to the slightest amount of radiation that the seedlings would be variegated. maybe the next time a hoya seed pods ripens i'll throw them into the microwave for 1 second and then plant them and see what happens. I want it to be seed from a hoya like lambii can you imagine what a variegated hoya lambii would look like!!!...See MoreHoyas, hoyas and....more hoyas!
Comments (35)For anyone who wishes to order hoyas from Thailand or any other foreign country for that matter, make sure that you can get a phyto certificate to accommodate your shipment before you pay for it. Customs has been getting their panties in a twist lately and destroying any shipments that are not accompanied by proper documentation. I had a rather large order of rare hoyas coming from Thailand that were shipped on 8/11. The box finally showed up at my house on 8/26. EMPTY!!!! All that was in it was a piece of paper from customs stating that the cuttings had in fact been inspected, were found to be insect and disease free but due to no phyto ( my fault) with the shipment ,my hoyas were destroyed. Bad part about it was that instead of the idiot inspector destroying the box as well, I mean hey if you trash the plants, trash the box too, they found it amusing to go ahead and send me the empty box. A letter would have been fine, my name and address were right on the box!!! The Thai vendor who is someone that i've dealt with for several years now was gracious enough to replace the shipment for me,with a phyto this time. That box was mailed last Monday 9/14,it arrived in N.Y. Saturday 9/19 and it was at my house yesterday 9/21,sent EMS. It took exactly 1 week from the day of shipment for me to receive the order and everything was in excellent condition. david...See MoreBack w/ Update on new Hoyas from new laptop
Comments (10)Thx EMT, is this how you brought yours back, by cutting & soaking? HI GL, I'd potted up the plant, more than a month ago, but it appears not to be taking up liquid. So, I unpotted it, saw roots at the bottom of the stem & cut some of them off, cutting back the a bit of the bottom stem end to green growth, in btwn some of the roots (still left some). Am trying to get it to drink & plump up. Today, while it doesn't look better, it does feel firmer when I hold the cutting in my hand....See Morejust received my Ipe shipment from East Teak
Comments (5)Just want to update everyone on the my experience with East Teak and their Ipe. George sent me 6 more 4' posts to replace these I consider not usable. No problem. After helf way through the install, I found out I was actually missing 2 pieces. I only got 17 instead of 19. The bundle came loose during shipping, and I didn't count the exact number of the 4x4 right away. In any case, I called East Teak and talked to them again, I wasn't sure if they could do anything. Right away, they said they'll shipping me 2 more piece. How about that. So, I will say East Teak is someone I would recommend based on my own experience. Although i'm not sure if I would use 4x4 ipe post again if i have to start all over. I took 1 of these rejected 4x4 and cut it in half. The checking does go all the way through in some areas. If that's what I can expect for all my 4x4s sooner or later, I don't feel comfortable that it's not sturcturelly effected some how....See MoreUser
