How adorable. And the parents continue to clean house even after the babies have left. Good renters. Do the young stay around the yard after they have fledged or are they like tree swallows, never to be seen again?

It's scary out there! But it's lonely in here, where did everybody go? Decisions, decisions..... OK, I'm outta here (gulp)....

Interesting that at least one parent seems to be cleaning up the nest but also at least one parent is still bringing food and looking for the babies. Did you see them feeding the fledglings out in the yard?

I just read my post and it seems a little curt. I'm sorry; I certainly did not mean it that way. The little dead bird in the nest was all dried out and hard as a rock. I think it had been dead for more than a week but was too large for the parents to take out. The wing that I found ~25 feet away from the box still had moist flesh on it. That's why I think it was a hawk. Although a raccoon could have taken it. There was no other sign of the bird. Linda C

Nests are so low and the babies so tiny, can't see how they can peek. I'm currently watching a dee house with 5 babies-one is a very tiny runt. With mama and papa dee calling them out, I'm sure when their fledge day comes, they will just shoot out of the box. This is a second dee pair. The first nest fledged 5 and I totally missed it but the woods sure are full of dee deeing. Linda

Cool. I'd be willing to bet that mom and dad Blue will be bringing them to the mealworm feeder within a week. In the mean time, listen for them in the trees. While they're often well hidden, you can usually hear them when mom or dad is nearby with food. My last clutch started bringing their young to the feeder after about 5 days. At first the young would wait to be fed. But they soon learned how to use the feeder themselves.
