White kitchen cabinet paint and trim paint - need help
Comments (5)I'm painting my cabinets white right now, and had a hard time choosing the white. Funny how you can stand there staring at four white paint chips taped up to your cabinets and go nuts trying to decide which one looks best! I almost went with Simply White but ended up choosing White Dove. I went with Benjamin Moore Advance in satin. The people at the store recommended either Cabinet Coat or Advance for kitchen cabinets. I'm not familiar with SW Pro. But if you use BM paint, the satin might have enough of a shine for you. I started with satin thinking I might switch to semi-gloss, but the satin is really nice and has much more shine then I expected. I would use satin for the cabinets and semi-gloss or even gloss for the trim. But I like shiny trim! Good luck! I should actually be painting my cabinets right now!...See MoreTo Paint or Not to Paint (Kitchen Cabinets)?
Comments (35)Your cabinets look to be good quality oak. I don't think painting the cabinets will look good especially with oak as they require even more work so as not to have the grain showing through. I personally think your kitchen is mostly charming and with your table and chairs, I think small changes will have a HUGE impact on the overall look. 1. Change out the fan for a wonderful new light fixture. 2. Get rid of all the clutter on top of the counters 3. Find and install updated knobs and handles for the cabinets 4. Put in under cabinet lighting to brighten up the space. 5. Remove the dated scallop trim. 6. Put in a light and bright backsplash 7. Declutter the glass cabinets 8. Wallpaper the back of the glass cabinets in a light subtle patterned wallpaper that goes with the rest of the feel of the kitchen. 9. Update the table with a nicer tablecloth 10. Put in a lighter backsplash...See MoreTo paint or not to paint kitchen cabinets????
Comments (40)3/8 step hinges? They pose an issue as the styles and colors are limited. Try Barker Cabinets you can easily make those drawers and doors full overlay which means you would only see the doors no frames. This would give a very clean modern look. If you like slab doors as you have they are very reasonably priced and might shock you that for under $1000 you have a brand new looking kitchen. If not I would sand not strip. Buy a nice random orbital sander and progressive grits from 180-220-400 and your ready for a nice fresh coat of General Finishes clear. By the way that Bar Keepers Friend contains oxalic acid which will also take the stain from the handle off and can also be used to bleach the wood back to new. If you like the tone they are now try repairing the areas that are damaged by sanding and applying amber shellac and then clear coat over what you have with a light sanding. General Finishes Enduro clear also has a slight amber tint to it like old non water based clears. I would not use a water based clear because it will not have the look you want on that species of wood. Good luck!...See MoreKitchen Cabinets: to paint or not to paint?
Comments (3)I agree the cabinets need painting but really too bad you spent money on new counters before getting new cabinets. All those lower regular cupboards are a real PITA to use and should have been replaced with drawers. Now the paint job will cost as much as new cabinets but it needs to be done and please no glazing this time . The same color as the trim would be the good choice....See Morejnavarro31
