Welcome to Kitchen! Simplest move would be to put the single door between the fridge and a shallow framed pantry or pantry cabinets:

ETA, where are the French doors going? If you're asking for input on the rest of the plan, I'd suggest putting the DW on the left side of the sink, to get it out of the corner by the cooktop--then you can store dishes in drawers in the island, to make it easier for a helper to load and unload the DW, and set the table, without being in the cooking zone. Beautiful window, btw :).

I was going to suggest the same. You don't want a corner pantry, especially one that is only connected to cabinets on one side, anyway.

It's a blank slate. So we can do anything with the design. I thought about putting French doors opening to the patio. Similar to the ones I have now. i hate giving up a walk in party. That's my only hang up

Those corner pantries have about 4.5' on each wall. But you can't utilize the corners very well so it's really 4.5' on one side and 3.5' on the other = 8'. It looks like mama goose's pantries are about 12'. So the shallow pantry cabinets actually give you more storage space.

The rest of the design is very functional... Fridge to sink to cooktop is the way we move around the kitchen. You won't have to cross zones. Maybe you want the microwave in the island (closer to fridge where most food to be microwaved comes from, also kid-friendly) or a kid- friendly beverage and snack station in the pantry area. If a bathroom isn't nearby, I would love a sink there for hand washing when kids come in from playing so they don't get in the way of you cooking.

If you want to keep the corner panty it seems like it would be a relatively simple design change to swap the locations of the door and refrigerator although you would want the fridge next to the high window so that the open doors won't interfere with the pantry wall.

One other comment. Do not get doors for your lower cabinets. Drawers are so much more efficient and can actually store more.

cpartist caught something I missed--drawer bases instead of cabinet bases. Most folks here like the drawer bases for easy access to items, including dishes. Here are a couple of links with discussions on the subject:

And here's the plan with the door and fridge switched, which puts the fridge 20' from the cooktop. As mentioned, you'd need space to permit the fridge door to open fully against the pantry--and you'd need an armed guard to keep everyone who enters or exits via the door out of your work zones, IMO. ;)

Yes I see what you mean. It creates a walkway right through the kitchen.

Here is the existing floorplan. We have already blown out the walls between the kitchen and the dining. I can blow out the wall between the front living room and the front living room if needed.

I would really like a walk in pantry and apx 8' of French doors/plate glass so I can see kids.

OK, so looking at the floor plan we are talking about the combined spaces labeled as kitchen, dining, and sun room? Is part of this space going to be an informal family room (e.g. for TV, kids playing)? How much seating do you need at the dining table?

Yes Exactly. The idea was to have open kitchen/living/breakfast. The front room can be formal living/dining. Or I can blow out all the walls and make it one huge room. My formal dining table holds six chairs and expands to eight. Breakfast table just need seating for four
