Hosta "Dancing Queen"
Comments (29)If you guys don't mind me jumping in on another old thread, could anyone tell me how "slug resistant" Dancing Queen is? Only found it listed as such on one site, but not sure how accurate that info is. It sure looks free of holes in all the pics I've seen... Planning on getting Sluggo soon, but still prefer hostas that don't really need it. Thanks in advance!...See Morewould you help me choose please?
Comments (12)If these are the ones that you have to chose from then all I can do is to indicate my own personal choices and I've grown the majority of ones that you list. I'll just star the ones I think are best: Cherry: Green Grape *Black Cherry Italian Ice (read that this one isn't that great in the taste department) "Unusuals": Black Truffle Lemon Boy (read its a stinker) Razzleberry Carbon Red Lightning (not great ratings on this one) Green Zebra Heirloom: *Brandywine Amana Orange (not high in flavor?) Aunt Ruby's German Green (mixed reviews) *Kellogg's Breakfast (mixed reviews), much better than Amana Orange which it supercedes. Pineapple , Virginia Sweets is a better gold/red bicolor Georgia Streak , Virginia Sweets is a better bicolor and Georgia Streak is a very long season variety. Marvel Stripe , another bicolor *Aunt Gertie's Gold (very low production?), outstanding taste, and probably some got low production as can happen with any variety *Virginia Sweets *Golden Queen (USDA strain) (low production?), no, not low production, again, someone somewhere is always going to have low production *White Queen, the whitest of the whites and the most taste, but that isn't saying much; grow for a novelty Tangerine Great White (low production?) *Dr. Wycke's Yellow , it's Dr. Wyche's Yellow and quite good Mortgate Lifter Vintage Wine *Cherokee Purple Thank you all in advance!! Comments (29)Hi armjim, First, let's put the kibosh on thoughts like that! haha. Our TLs are going to hang in there! Fingers crossed. But, I do like to think ahead so I'm prepared in case of disaster. Um, yes and then kind of no, to your question. My reasons for yes are that the SQ FL is a good, solid, well built washer that would likely outlive our TLs from what I've read. So yes I would consider a SQFL, in that sense. The ability to keep itself together for spins is proven. I've had a FL very nearly seriously damage the room it was in because it came apart from itself during spin on a heavy load. That was scary and ultimately, a terminal failure. But, I do hesitate in this sense: It doesn't have an internal heater. Not really liking that. I'm not certain if that would keep me from buying one if needed, but that is a big issue with me. I can deliver 140F water to that washing machine, but with such a low amount of water being delivered, would it stay at 140F? Probably not. And in reality, if we are using high temps to banish unwanted organisms from our laundry and washing machines, 140F is not enough. It helps, but it's not a sanitize environment if we are being truthful with ourselves. We still have to rely on chemicals to do that job. Then, once in a while there is a problem with a SQ. Sometimes there are lemons. And from what I've read, trying to get a repair, or even a sensible or knowledgeable repair can be an uphill battle. That is NOT ok. I don't see any reason for these SQ owners to be given the run around and ultimately, not be helped with their repair. SQ does like to play the "I've never heard of that happening card" with owners and I call bs on that. I don't like that and that alone might be a deal breaker for me. I can't emphasize enough how much that does not sit well with me. One never knows if they are going to get a washing machine that is glitchy or simply a dud. I do think about this because I've been in washing machine h3ll too many times with previous FLs and I don't ever want to be there again. Plus I have a problem lots of other people don't have is that I can't get most of today's w/d into my house due to narrow doorways. A SQ TL or FL will fit into my house. So it has to stay on my list of possibilities regardless of the downsides I mention above. A Miele will fit as will an Asko, but both of those machines can be a similar repair problem if issues come up, not to mention in some cases, financially prohibitive to go through an out of warranty repair. Then the cost of a SQ FL presently. For that kind of money I can buy a Miele, roll the dice on reliable service (we are in an area that service would likely be a problem) and have a quality internal heater inside the machine...see how it's a tough call to make? I hope I don't have to be in that situation any time soon....See MoreHelp with thermostat placement!
Comments (23)The option to use a number of remote sensors and either average their inputs or program the system to control based on different sensors at different times of day as wdccruise described above overcomes the limitations of a single temperature measurement. It's a great option. It's possible to have temp swings of 10F degrees or more within a structure (your house). The human body is likely to feel that disparity. This event is typical under "condition extremes" not likely to be solved by a sensor to reduce or induce further system run time. If the sensor(s) are placed in areas in the stream of conditioned air or some radiant heat this will only lead to more problems. The gadget market is a billion dollar a year market... not really known for producing things that actually work. If you live in a mild climate, maybe gadget is all you need. (Most of the time the system is off in a mild climate or if it is on it's on for a short amount of time.) If you are hot in one area and cool this area by forcing the unit to run more the other areas that are cooler will become cooler still or too cold. If you are too cold in one area and run heat to force this area to be warmer other areas will become too hot. Sensors aren't likely to fix these kinds of problems. The gimmick is hey all we need is this cheap product and all our problems will go away. Design problems aren't fixed with gimmicks. Keeping it real here. As always your mileage will vary primarily due to the climate concerns of where you live....See Moredon_in_colorado
