Thank you all for the help. Flutterbug, I think you are right. I have been pulling it and the more I pull the more the sprouts keep coming up. I think I will try smothering it, as I had to do with another weed I had once. I'll also try the vinegar Susan, which I have tried in other situations with mixed results. I don't however, see how killing it with vinegar and pulling the sprouts would have a different result from each other. It would seem that killing or removing the sprouts may be an indicator to the root system to push out a new spurt of growth in a different direction. I didn't realize they would present this problem when I planted the other named varieties I have and hope that they won't become a problem. Brnegrrl....I am not quite sure how to interpret your statement that pulling milkweed makes you uncomfortable. I am guessing that you would like to see milkweed grow as much as possible to provide food for butterflies. Naturally, that was the reason I planted them in the first place. I just looked up the Asclepias incarnata and it is reported to be ..'a clump former that does not spread by runner like some of it's cousins.' I was out looking at the three Asclepias incarnata that I planted last year and they have come up in the same place on the same plant that went in the ground last year and have not spread or come up in a different location. The plant I am having trouble with is something that evidently came in on the wind or with a bird and hid out behind my hose reel until it was quite large last year and that is the one I am trying to get rid of. It must be the runner cousin. So I will keep the incarnata that clumps as I continue to get rid of the other. I had a ton of monarchs last year, which were all over my Butterfly Bush, which isnt even a native. Thanks... :-)

I'm having fun in PS with all your samples/pictures but what a conundrum :o Do you like blue? On my screen I see blue in that beautiful leopard rug and of course the dusty French blue goes great with the wood you chose. Do you have blue elsewhere in the house? Looking at the sample laying on the rug, it's the bottom row, third from the left. Personally, I stay away from colors that tend to look dingy or dull so I would want to go bright or darker...darker stair cases are usually more dramatic (around here). I see a lot of these stair runners or carpeted stairs. My husband cuts (has them bound) and installs countless stair runners. Yesterday's job was supposed to a runner but the customer changed her mind and did a full coverage of her staircase. This is what he installed 130 yds of so it wasn't just the stairs (not the actual house). Good luck. Can't wait to see which color you choose.

A slow drain is first cousin to your next stopped up and overflow. It’s a partial clog and drain cleaner is useless. Drain chemicals are actually VERY DANGEROUS YO YOU. It will burn you. It will dissolve the heck out of marble tile Heck, it can eat the gloss right off of ceramic tile. It can eat holes in galvanized plumbing and make a bad situation much worse. It’s not really safe to use and should be taken off the market. That drain needs to be augured. You obviously aren’t up to the task. Pay a Pro. Or have the super do the job he gets paid to do. And you better darn well be sure that your insurance covers flooding from negligence. Because it probably won’t. And your neighbor is gonna have a 59K judgement against you for ruining his apartment. If you rent instead of own, you will be asked to leave. If you own, the super is going g to have the right to enter your apartment at will to inspect, because you were negligent in reporting issues that caused building damage. What kind of “home professional” are you? Dare we ask? CPA? Accountant? Masseuse? All three? It certainly doesn’t involve anything design or construction related, that’s for sure.

Gosh, I'm not an expert but 4 x 4 ought to be OK. When you think about it, old time strip hardwood went down over just a subfloor so I don't see a problem. Other than it may be a bit more difficult to stagger seams just because you'll have more of them. No doubt full sheets would be preferable but sometimes you just gotta' do with what you have. Another thought--maybe rip the sheets lengthwise and put down 2x8 sections? Easier to handle than a 4 x 4?? Yes, you can do without the glue. I followed instructions that I found from some experienced floor guy on the internet somewhere (it's been a few years ago) and did the glue because my subfloor is only 1/2" plywood with visible dips and sags between joists and because the old floor was a squeaking nightmare. Also, it is a large high traffic kitchen/ great room where we removed two partitions and where squeaking would annoy me all day, every day. You're dealing with a bedroom, maybe even a spare bedroom? I had to sift thru a lot of information to even find how to deal with my situation of having only 1/2" ply. Sure wasn't up to removing it and having to walk on joists to install a thicker subfloor. The glue was extra insurance. Oh--I know you said that you knew to stagger seams; I assume you also know that the second plywood layer goes on perpendicular to the first layer? Mentioning just in case... Not something we do everyday so it's easy to forget even stuff we already know!
