Help! Fertilizing bonanza peach

Hello all I got a bonanza peach from the Portland nursery back in March it flowered the gave way to small peaches, I thinned it down to 3 peaches last week after they reached over 1 in diameter as I didn't want my young tree to work so hard producing fruit its first year. I went out to check on it this morning and I dropped one of the peaches. I now have two left that are approx. 1 in in diameter. I bough EB stones citrus and fruit fertilizer 7-3-3 at the recommendation of the nursery who knew I was keeping it in its container, I've since learned that organic fertilizer doesn't work for potted trees and haven't fed it. My question is this an early June drop or because I haven't fed it? Also what kind of fertilizer should I be using and at what frequency/rate? Is it too late to fertilize now? My assumption is that they would need more food while producing fruit but as this is my first fruit tree I need all the help I can get!

I bought 2 bonanza dwarf peach trees back in 2009. They are planted in the ground and have doubled in size since being planted. Currently they are about 4' - 5' tall. They are healthy, bloom like crazy, and every year for the last 3 years they've been covered with "would be peaches" HOWEVER the fruit NEVER develops into an edible peach. The fruit stays green and gets a bit bigger than a peach seed then JUST STOPS. Why? Is this normal? Granted, I probably shouldn't have bought peach trees at Lowes but I'd never seen a small variety and the tag on these said they wouldn't get larger than 6 feet (which was perfect for my yard). Why are they setting fruit but not producing mature fruit? Here's one of the trees (below). The other one is 8 feet to the right (not pictured). Here's how big the "fruit" is (below). It has been this size for a month with no sign of getting any bigger - just like last year, and the year before that (sigh).

Kristopher I fertilize light on peach tree about 2 pounds that one quart jar full fertilizer I use 10-10-10 premium grade fertilizer common name garden fertilizer label have photo veg. on it. I spread out with my heal to trunk tree that keeps off trunk. Fertilize any time there no fruit on tree I start first bloom then nothing until after fruit pick off then prune and fertilize again. Peach tree don't like wet roots at all summer are winter they need less water than most fruit trees 2 quarts water week if tree needs water, you get into trouble watering because rain can come on top your watering and kill tree. Once you get strong tree structure, that hold a load of fruit you can cut back on fertilize to just at bloom this fertilize size up fruit to large size.

bob b: I think Al has a good point. But the general recommendations in CA are late summer and early spring. Nitrogen applied now will not stimulate unwanted growth. The trees do take up N applied in the fall and store it in their tissues for use next spring. Applying N in the fall after leaf drop is a bad idea because the trees will not take up nutrients after leaf fall. Nutrients are taken up in the water that is transpired thru the leaves, no transiration, no uptake. The best way to limit leaching is don't apply N unless it is needed, apply no more than 50lb/acre spring and fall when needed, and don't over irrigate after application. If you apply N now and water it in, that should probably be your last irrigation of the year. The Fruitnut

Sure! I got the tree the last weekend of March - so it's been planted in the ground for about 6 weeks. I watered it every day for the first 3 weeks (per instructions from nursery) and am now watering every other day. The tree has been spliced, I suspect to add a bit more of a trunk to the plant. It also has 4 healthy looking peaches about the size of a silver dollar. Thanks Again!
