These were started indoors, correct? None of these are normally direct seeded so I assume you are just now starting your indoor transplants. If so then without added soil heat peppers can often take up to 4 weeks to germinate and melons can take as much 3 weeks.

Go to a local nursery or big box store and buy some pepper and tomato transplants. The temps you mention are still a little cool and the plants will just sit there for a while doing nothing until it warms up. Wait to plant melon seeds until the nighttime lows are above 50, although 55 would be better.

Oh. Can I ask why? Given how late it is in the season why did you not opt to buy transplants? Especially for peppers and tomatoes? Honestly Ryan no one direct seeds those, they buy transplants or grow their own starting them indoors months ago.

Peppers are slow growing that to get any crop no one direct seeds them. If one doesn't want to buy transplants then they grow their own from seed indoors starting about 2+ months ago. Same for tomato plants. Honestly no one direct seeds them as their odds of survival are slim. And tomato plants have been planted in your zone for weeks and are already blooming and setting fruit.

Given your late start I would strongly encourage you to buy transplants this year. Is that not possible for you to do?

I ordered a heirloom variety that was only available from seed. It would take around two months to fruit, which I am okay with. I'm just concerned as to why they haven't come up yet given it's been 15 days.

Mean temp in the low 50s will take AGES to sprout. Especially peppers. Peppers will take 2 weeks to sprout when the temperature is in the 70s.

Should have started them indoors or at least put some black plastic down to warm the soil.

That's once it sets fruit. But once it germinates it also needs an additional 6-8 weeks to even get to the size to first bloom and if that bloom sets it will be another 6-8 weeks before it ripens. So with luck 4 months from now you might actually get your first ripe tomato. In 5 months you might get a pepper. That's pretty much a waste of the whole gardening season.

If the tomato variety had a 60-something days to maturity then that would be from transplant. You would have to add on about an extra 6 weeks to that number to get the days to maturity from seed. And the numbers given for the DTM aren't set in stone and are a general guideline at best. It takes longer for things to mature in cooler weather.

Why haven't they sprouted yet? As has been said it is because the soil is simply too cool. If you still have some seeds you can start inside then give it a try. Just know that you'll still be behind in terms of planting. You might get some fruit late in the year.

The OP being in zone 7a with high/low temperatures of 60/45 makes me wonder if they are in the Pacific Northwest somewhere. Those are nearly the same temps that I've been stuck with here in Michigan and I don't think they'd be having tomatoes fruit in that weather, although I could be wrong.

Which heirloom varieties? Someone here might have an extra plant they're trying to get rid of. And as others have asked, where are you?

Even if no one has transplants of those varieties, someone might know where you can find them.

Also, from your other thread I'm thinking you might be new to this (although maybe this is just a new raised bed for you). If hate for you to have a bad first season and then decide gardening just isn't for you. So go grab some plants from your local nursery. There's no reason you have to suffer through a fruit-free summer just because you didn't know to start your seeds in the dead of winter.

If you are set on growing these from seed rather then buying transplants ( I think you should buy transplants and save the seeds for next year) then try moistening the soil around the seeds with warm water in the morning and evening at least or more often if you can. That just might be enough warmth for the seeds to germinate. Are the seeds planted in the sun? They should be, if not find a sunny spot and re-plant and also moisten the soil with the warm water. You could also purchase and plant some of your garden with transplants and plant seeds for the veggie that you are most interested in growing from seed. I don't have a huge amount of gardening experience but have had a garden for 7 years and I find trying to grow everything from seed sown in my garden, overwhelming and just too dang hard....

This is the third time of asking the same question and the answer remains the same. It was too cold for those crops to germinate. There are lots of helpful practical suggestions on all three threads.

Good points Rodney. In my part of 7a it has also been 60/45 but only a few days off and on during the past few weeks. We have also had many more days of 80+/65 during that same time period so my plants are blooming and setting fruit. 60/45 is ok weather for established transplants but not for any direct seeded germination.

I also assumed the OP was simply new to gardening and didn't know any better. But if this is the 2nd or 3rd discussion of this same issue then apparently the OP isn't interested in making the needed changes.

melons,tomatoes,pepper need soil temps of at least 75-85 for quick germination but ryan has demonstrated he has not even done basic research or he would know germination would take month if he is luck at that temperatures or longer .

all three of his thread has shown he going to fail since lack basic knowledge

is waste of seeds,soil and garden plot. my advice for ryan to get some good books vegetable garden so he get knowledge he need and does not come back to gw whine ever time he fails to follow basics stuff newbies point out in first few chapters.
