John deere won't start
Comments (1)Hopefully you won't need to be looking for a new tractor. Does the top screen of the engine turn freely by hand? Does it seem to have compression? Oil level?...See MoreKawasaki 9HP Hard Start When Warm
Comments (9)Update, What an idiot I am, screw 21 at the base of the bowl is the bowl fuel drainage, please disregard my earlier post. I did try the method of shutting off the fuel supply for 10 seconds before turning iginition off. It still behaved the same way, only starts on slow speed. I may just live with it since I have for years. I don't want to risk messing with the carb since there's a chance something else can go wrong as indicated below. I recently changed the mower belt, not hard to do. While I was at it I thought I'd change the primary belt which was still in good condition. Big mistake changing the primary belt. After I finished I was checking it out while still jacked up, no matter what I did as soon as I put it in gear it stalled. After spending countless hours rechecking my work I gave up. I lowered the mower from the jack and was prepared to push the 357 pound machine into the shed. Before doing so I started the engine and put it in gear, everything worked again. It appears by having it jacked up caused the problem. Moral of the experience, if it ain't broke don't fix it....See MoreEasiest way to get any gas engine started if it son't want to sta
Comments (20)Very good points. Thanks,Ewalk! My mower feels as if it has compression release allowing the easy spins. It is the initial seasonal start-up my arm hates and fine with the pull afterwards. “A Big Safety Issues” if you have ever had a “Kickback”, it could take you out. I doubt the none experienced would make the needed Jig. If an electric motor can be adapted to your mower or Etc. that is the safer way to go. The neatest I have seen is the mower that re-coils for the next start when you kill it. Again it could be mean and not start with that charge at the start of the season. Hopefully it will have Compression Release to assist with one or two pulls. If I was not so lazy I would hire or trade with my Yardman, LOL! He walks from 10 houses away with his problems. I call him from 10 houses away when I need Help. Or! Alert him on my 2 mi walk I’ll need help on my return if he has time. He’s a good yardman with yards and helps in a crew…...See MoreAdvice on which tractor, x300, Regent or LA deere series?
Comments (22)Varmint, Thanks on all your feedback, and that of others. I took delivery today of my new tractor. I put it right to work pulling my dump cart full of brush, and my yard sweeper. Maybe I should change my handle to happinessisanewtractor. Observations: This tractor is very comforable. the ergonomics of the Regent are very good. The controls are well laid out and very intuitive. The 18HP Kohler Courage engine is plenty strong, and very reasonable in noise level. Especially compared to my old tractor's 8hp Briggs. The transmission is very smooth (smoother than the x300 I drove, probably how it's belt drive is designed), and pulled my sweeper like it was'nt even there. The ride accross my bumpy yard is just that, bumpy. I'm going to check the tire pressure again, and try lowering it to improve the ride a little. Also, the steering is very precise, but that also lends itself to jolting out of my hands on bumps if I'm not careful. Again tire pressure may help that. I suspect the same would be true on almost any "lawn tractor". Essentially it means I have to keep my speed down in the areas that are bumpy. My old tractor's seating position was closer to the ground, so I may be perceiving that I'm going slower on the new Regent than I actually am. Perhaps a heavier Garden Tractor, ie: a Conquest or x500 might traverse the lumpy terrain more smoothly, but I would not want to give up the manuverability of the Regent, which is fantastic. I have not mowed yet, but did engage the mower. Take note, this thing is powerful, it shot several pine cones like a rocket. The discharge is very strong, which I hope will reduce clumping of my grass clippings. Overall I feel that I made a good choice for my needs. I have to say that Simplicity orange is just as nice looking as Deere Green. I'm looking forward to mowing season & will let you know how it performs....See Moreyt125
