Use of Sta-Bil and/or Seafoam gas stabilizers/cleaners
Comments (23)When I worked as a mechanic at a Buick dealership, some of the old mechanics would pour water down the carburetor VERY SLOWLY. The water turns to steam and the shock knocks off the carbon. When the old ladies would bring in those beautiful Buick Electras and Riverias because they idled rough, the Service Manager would take the car out on the freeway and really get after it. I went with him once and you could actually hear the carbon particles tinkling out the exhaust pipes. He would ask if they were burning Ethel as recommended in those 11:1 high compression engines. The customers jaw would jut out and they would say they will only burn regular. Idiots. I think adding transmission fluid to your gas would only carbon up your engine even more, if it did anything. Sorry off topic. I use Stabil and fill the gas tank to the top to prevent condensation from forming when I park my GT for the winter. (I empty my weedwacker, leaf blower and chain saw whenever they won't be used for several weeks.) Six months later the GT starts right up. I don't have any experience with SEaFoam....See MoreJohn Deere L100 engine not start
Comments (1)Cliff - the fact that your engine did try to start when you sprayed rattlecan carb cleaner into the carb intake indicates the engine is not getting fuel. Using a catch container, remove the fuel supply hose to the carb bodyand then crank the engine for a few second to see that you are getting a strong flow of fuel from the fuel pump (if so equipped) or a steady flow of fuel from the gravity fed fuel tank. If so, problem is still inside your carb - remedy is to remove, take apart, soak overnite in liquid carb cleaner, then use a small dia stiff brass wire with a magnifier to probe EVERY opening/orifice/passageway in each component, blowing same out with compressed air to clear dislodged crud. Then rebuild card with NEW rebuild kit using only fresh gaskets . Recheck that afterfire solenoid for not sticking, too. Good luck....See MoreStarting any old gas internal combustion engine after storage
Comments (3)I always remove the battery, use Stab-bil in the fuel systems, and replace used oil, prior to seasonal storage.Haven't had the problems mentioned.Engines with outside mounted contact points, perhaps the point surfaces become oxidized during periods of non-use.I still believe "in The ounce of prevention thing. But for those that don't,fight with the self inflicted problems,or get on the waiting list at the reapair shop, and bring pleanty $$$$. tbk...See MoreI want to get started
Comments (17)>Does it lower enough to drive a lawn/garden tractor on to to raise it up? Or is it narrow enough to straddle and lift them up that way ?because I wanted to be able to steal the jack for other uses, whether the table's in use or not, it lowers to about 12" (note the foot on the left) and I can still get the jack out...if the jack was dedicated to this alone you could get it down to 7-8"...and with the 3' attachable ramp it's low enough to easily push tractor or mc up. table measures 82 X 32 so the tractor front wheels are on but the rear wheels hang over 2-3" each side...which isn't really a problem. I made a "snatch trailer" with that orange engine crane for heavy stuff in the yard, and backed the trailer straddled...this is a very versatile and useful lift table. >Are those chains taunt for stability when it is all the way up ?the chain on the right just keeps it from going over center under load and the chain on the left is a removeable safety should the jack fail under load (weight up high terrifies me). all the load is on the jack, and the lift is surprisingly stable...note the X brace on the left legs. all the pivots are 5/8" pins (rod) in 1/2" pipe. lift weighs around 200# and has an estimated capacity of roughly 1000#. I've had 800# on it with no concern. jack is 1 1/2 ton....See Morercmoser
