deicing a non paved driveway?
Comments (29)Your comments rubbed me the wrong way and you had my comments removed.I did not recieve any reason for it.It is just gone.I just do not like when someone is judged by where they live.Just because someone lives in the right part of town does not make them smarter or have more money.Just like living in a trailer does not make someone trailer trash or a idiot.I live in a nice home on several acres in the country. But before I had this house built I lived in a 14x76 trailer for 5 years. Some of my best friends and relatives live in house trailers.I can not think of one who is not successful. They all get up and go to work everyday or are retired.A few of them never finished Highschool. One of them is my Uncle who lives in a trailer with my Aunt and never finished school.Because he worked to support his family after his dad died.Back in the 30's things were different then today. But he did very well and could buy a Mansion if he really wanted it....See MoreWhat if worms weren't God's gift to gardeners?
Comments (12)My worms originated because I read the _You Grow Girl_ gardening book which suggested a worm bin as an apartment composting option. I was thrilled, especially since the main office had threatened to pull out the garbage disposal that I wasn't supposed to have anyway (for what it is worth, they have not pulled it out and it has been a year). Before that I thought I was going to have to save up all of my scraps and take them to the town compost heap, which would be an ordeal and a half. Now, that said, I've never pampered my worms. They get frozen food portions that can thaw in the bin. They still give me poop, which I have used to fertilize my plants. However, their castings are not the only fertilizer that I have. Lord knows, if all they did was eat and not poo, I'd be just as happy. Less waste in the landfill makes a happy J. (Plus, that is less trash I have to walk down to the dumpsters.)...See MoreMushrooms erupting through paved driveway!
Comments (15)Bacteria produce sulfates? Fungi produce toxins? That's a distorted (or at best, very incomplete) description of what happens in the subsurface. Fungi are quite beneficial. Certain classes of them decompose wood fibers, which allows bacteria to finish the job of decomposing the wood into humus. Without fungi we'd be a mile deep in dead wood. Also, many fungi are known to interact with plants and perform essential roles soil fertility. They are hardly mortal enemies of bacteria, although they sometimes prefer different growing conditions and substrates. Fungi have a bad reputation, but if you pay attention to soil and plant scientists, they're finding out just how essential and valuable they are. It's too bad the ones in this case are poking holes in the driveway, but it's not because they are a menace or a disease that doesn't belong. Obviously they like it there! I still think there may be a dead tree root nearby....See MoreAs if my spinal problems weren't enough . . .
Comments (20)Colorcrazy, so, a fellow walker-user, and now you've accepted it. Good for you! I haven't reached that point, but it has only been several weeks. I haven't been out side with it by myself. The weather has been too bad for that. My DD takes me every where I need to go. She folds the walker, puts it in the car and off we go. When I can get out, there are sidewalks and roads right outside my door; that will help. I have found that I can get around in the house without it for the most part, but so far I still take it with me and hold on to the furniture, doors, etc, just in case. I have a tray for it which adds a little weight to it so I lift it to turn it around a lot; I call that physical therapy. OT for a minute. I see you live in Arlington. I lived there from about age 7 to 12, when my family moved to Vienna, VA for a couple years, then back to Arlington, where I graduated from W-L. Later, marriage took me and my DH to Richmond, and then to Bristol, but back to Arlington and finally Augusta County. More later, maybe. Linda, from a walker to a quad cane; that sounds very brave. I have a quad that I got when I had my first knee replacement, and used it again for the second knee. A couple years ago I got a regular cane for going out, but used the quad for when I got up in the mornings. I'm thinking about going back to it here in the house, but I don't want to risk anything until after the next scan. I've seen the HuriCane, but haven't tried one. Years ago I had a very elderly friend at the pool who all ways decorated her cane. She was quite a fun lady. I may have to be thinking about decorating mine. Maybe we should organize a KT Group of WalkerWonders? That could be fun. Tomorrow is Girls Day Out, and it is supposed to be nicer weather. Yea! Sue...See MoreVertise
