HELP! Why am I killing my Begonias???
Comments (52)Now comes some tidbits from a Floridian! First, Rexes do not thrive in FL. They are grown in temp controlled greenhouses with swamp coolers, which is why you see them for sale. Although it may feel muggy if you are in one, the temp is lowered during the day and cooled at night - relatively. There are newer rex/rhizo hybrids I am growing with success, but pure rexes never make it in our hot, wet summers. It is truly the hot nights that kill them. 80F lows are not uncommon. In habitat, rexes see 68-70F at night. Secondly, whomever started this thread is growing in soil that is way too heavy. I use Fafard #2 with additional perlite and pine bark added. I also keep my begonias barely potted up - like a few inches larger when they need it. That ensures the soil does not stay wet, which kills begonias. If you struggle to pick up a bag of soil, it is too heavy. I have five foot canes in 3 gallon pots. I can easily pick up a 3 gallon cane with one hand - that is what they prefer. Keeping that in mind should help you grow great begonias! Picture is my bench of 'River Nile'! Comments (11)I was also sure I wanted the Bosch until I got on this forum and decided for me I wouldn't like it. I called my sister in law as she just got a new Bosch and she didn't like it either. Her complaint was after each load she had to open the door and let it dry. I decided to go with the KA no disposal and heated dry if you chose to use it. I haven't got it yet so not sure how it works. Check on this forum for all the comments on the Bosch and see if for your needs it works....See MoreMiele floor model vs new Bosch? Comments (70)SO, there was no word from Mr. Appliance today AND Miele was also unable to reach him ??? Did they not offer to put you on their in house guy's sched. at that point ? Do not disagree with you about EXPECTING a working DW - floor model or not. However, you didn't get that and there is no going back to square one. It's like a wrecked car - it's not EVER going to be unwrecked. You chose to pursue a remedy and that's what has turned into a fiasco! I'm not convinced that if you had gone in on the 9th ( which makes it only 20 days, not a month) that FL Builders wouldn't have stonewalled you then too. Perhaps they would have convinced you to have it repaired and they would have sent their "guy" who just may have been from your favorite: new york minute - then how much agro would you be writing about. Additionally, your first contact with the actual manufacturer who underwrites the warranty was on the 15th or 16th making it 5-7 business days depending on how you count em. Now 7 days doesn't exactly make me feel all warm and fuzzy but it's not an eternity either. I'm more concerned @ MR. Appliance going AWOL and Miele's inability to get movement. The svc. cntr. is still open the left coast crowd - maybe another call to them for an explanation @ Mr. App. at least. Maybe they'd bump you up their guy's list - though the person to make that happen won't be in until tomorrow on the East Coast. "What silly things have I done? " Not exactly silly , but going back to the unhelpful , and stonewalling dealer to expedite the repair and alter the terms of the deal ( xtended warranty refund ) was not your finest moment. I understand you wanting to be rid of this mess, and I hope you can get you $$$ quickly - but prepare yourself for another battle with FL. B and your cc co. If it (battle) doesn't happen, great - but you'll drink less and have fewer grey hairs if in fact it shakes out that way. Remember the dealer experience when they wanted your $$$ - think about how they'll act when asked to give it back to you ! Be sure to get EVERYTHING IN WRITHING from the dealer when returning the DW....See MoreCan you have a dishwasher NOT next to a sink?
Comments (29)Decided to go with the 24". Figured it might be easier to rearrange where I store dishes and things than go with the 18" and then regret it at resale (although I think it would be perfectly fine for our needs). Also an end run DW next to the frig seemed a little dicey for stone countertop support. One thing I've wondered about, why don't people pull the racks out of the machine onto the countertop and then unload them? Isn't that why the bottom rack slides out all the way onto the open door? Then you could have the DW anywhere and remove the rack and then take the rack to the cabinets where your dishes, etc. are stored. That would then free the DW of any location constraints. Of course, the elderly or weak may not be able to do this, but able-bodied persons? Or am I missing something?...See Moremama goose_gw zn6OH
