Doug, 1" of water over a 2 foot diameter plant is 3.14 sf times 1/12 ft equals 0.26 cubic feet times 7.481 gallon/cf therefore is 1.9 gallons over three watering times is 0.6 gallons three time a week. It would take your 0.5 gph emitter watering the plants 2 hours per cycle. Your limiting factor is the pressure loss for each emitter. See if you can find the pressure loss per emitter on-line or let us know the brand and we can look it up for you. If the design pressure is around 25 psi the loss should be a certain psi. So you have 20 psi loss for the total loss of the zone. JMHO aloha

I decided to try this thread because it's the questions/answers are 'similar' to mine. not real similar, but sort of :) I just received 2 50' 1/4" drip hoses from amazon. 1gpm/12" spacing, emitters built into the hose etc.. they are rainbird emitter hoses. how does one hook that up to a garden hose? I bought 2 and plan to buy more (if it works) but my yard is quite old (actually it is my 84 year old mothers yard) and putting in trenches and supply tubing seems like a real chore at the moment due to many shrubs and trees already planted and in the way. I was hoping to just hook up my emitter hose to the garden hose. can this be done? thanks. I will wait patiently for any/all feedback before posting a new thread, but will root around a bit in the meantime thanks much! Bill

Take a infilter out of it's casing, roll up some shade cloth in a 30 mm long cylinder the diameter of the casing and put in one end. In the other end you put in your fertiliser and screw the end on. If the fert is to strong put a T piece in before and after the casing. Join some hose to the T pieces with a tape in the middle to regulate the water to dilute the fert to the required strength.

Ewww, thanks for the tip, because that is exactly what I was going to try, bathroom silicone. Although I'm starting to see a workaround. The tubing kit came with connectors that attach to a hose, which I was having a hard time figuring out how to use at first. But the spout fits almost snugly into the tip that is made to attach to the tubing. Since I have a version that connects to the end of a hose and caps it, and a version that connects to both a hose and the tubing, I find that both these parts attach to each other. So I can connect the spout to the end cap version, unscrew the cap, connect that to the hose/tube connector, and attach the tube. This probably doesn't make all that much sense without pics, though, huh? I'll try and put some up once my brain is less tired. The thing that would make this perfect is if the spout could attach just a smidge more snugly without requiring silicone. This way, when it is time to refill, I can turn off the spout, detach the connector so that the whole assembly can remain in place, and just take the container down for refilling. Maybe I will take the spout and the connector to the hardware store to see if I can find a bit of tubing that can serve as an intermediary, as the connector is designed to lock over tubing to be secure. Right now the spout fits within the connector, not over the connector, and therefore cannot be locked into place. Or see if I still have a spare hose clamp around somewhere. I know I got some to repair a dishwasher leak, I just don't know if I got extras. Thanks for the ideas. One of these is bound to work!
