I think I have clovers and want to get rid of them
Comments (4)Not sure of the laws in Canada, but the best chemical for that area is Weed B Gone Clover, Chickweed and Oxalis killer or anything with about 8% triclopyr. You have a fair amount of chickweed by the way. If this isn't available, and that is the only weedy area, then just pull the weeds by hand....See MoreHow do I get rid of sweet violets in my lawn????????
Comments (1)What do they look like? What color are they, and do they grow from leaves that all come from the ground, like dandilion leaves do, or do they grow up along a stem? Are the leaves heart shaped? I'm curious, because I didn't think sweet or fragrant violets were winter hardy that far North. As far as eliminating violets from a lawn, I did spot some threads on that posted long ago--somewhere on thread pages 11 through 13, I think. We have quite a few little purple violets in our lawn that are typical to our area, and I would, personally, never give them up--they look lovely in early spring, when the grass is at its worst. After my husband mows the lawn, you can hardly see where they are. You might try reseeding your lawn a bit with some grass seed especially for shade, if it has become a more shaded area over time. Violets like partial shade, and possibly are competing with a variety of grass that can't compete. For more desperate measures, the old threads might be helpful to you. ;o)...See MoreHow do I get rid of my newly seeded Bermuda grass lawn
Comments (6)It is unfortunate that misinformation continues to be repeated about glyphosate. Denmark has not banned glyphosate, nor have "many European countries". Denmark at one point thought that some of the monitoring they were doing showed that glyphosate could move into agricultural field drainage water in autumn but once they looked at their data and related it to the methodology they used, they enacted no ban whatsoever. As the Danish Environmental Protection Agency specifically stated: http://www.egeis.org/home/main/Evaluation-GlyphosateDEPA.PDF "Against this background, the Danish Environmental Protection Agency believes that no unacceptable risk of pollution of the groundwater is associated with the currently approved agricultural use of glyphosate. The Agency thus does not consider that the updated state of our knowledge provides any technical grounds for the imposition of restrictions on the autumn application of glyphosate." Used properly, glyphosate will not pollute drinking water nor will it have adverse effects on humans. Once applied, it binds tightly to soil particles and is not herbicidally active. If it is applied to hard surfaces such as sidewalks it can move offsite of course. It can also move if there is active soil erosion carrying soil off site. It is of very low toxicity, and breaks down completely into natural constituents over time. It is of equal or lower toxicity than most household products such as detergent, soaps, shampoos, cleaners etc. and far less toxic than some of the "alternatives" often discussed such as bleach, kerosene, high strength vinegars and so on. There is so much misinformation being repeated on the web that it is difficult to get reliable information. This link provides an published overview of the available literature. Comments (5)"This is not a likely option because of the amount of area that my baby tears covers." It can feel daunting at the outset when the vista of work spread out before you seems like a bottomless pit, yes. But you simply start at one end and try to get into the zen of it and before you know it you have gotten a fair sized patch done. Repeat the next day and so on. Devote an hour a day and you'll be surprised what you can accomplish. Actually, weeding is kind of one of my most favorite things to do. It is of course tedious but the results are instant and very rewarding....See MoreUser
