Bread Pudding

This is my friend's bread pudding recipe. I don't know its origin, but it's the best bread pudding I've ever eaten!

Bread Pudding

1 stick of butter

1-1/2 cups of sugar

1-1/2 tablespoons of vanilla extract

5 eggs lightly beaten

2-1/2 cups of heavy cream

3/4 cup of semi-sweet chocolate morsels

1 pound of stale French bread (or potato rolls or donuts)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees

Cream the butter and sugar (unlike cake baking, the butter
can be melted for easier mixing.)

Add the vanilla.

Add the eggs and combine thoroughly.

Stir in the heavy cream.

Soak the bread in this custard mixture until wet throughout.

Put soaked bread into a greased 9x13 pan and pour the
chocolate chips on top in an even layer and then swirl them into the mixture to
evenly distribute.

Bake until the top is golden brown and the middle is almost
set. The custard will continue to cook after it is taken out of the oven and
the middle will set.

Serve topped with caramel sauce and whipped cream.
