Miele Owners Pls Help! New Miele DW has terrible odor!
Comments (34)I pulled the filter and checked mine last night. There is water like yours and there was some small bits of food particles. Did not smell. Although It finished running a load about 18hrs before. I can't test the two day thing since it pretty much always has dirty dishes in it. When there is dirty dishes in it obviously will have an odor that will build over time. I scrape but do not rinse my stuff. Wasn't as hard to break the habit that we had with rinsing the dishes since we were without a DW and sink for like 8 months for my remodel so it was like starting over :). I just started using the DW a few weeks ago. I have started using Miele Tabs and using 1/2. No rinse aid or salt. I have a whole house water softener and I just tested the water again and its at like 2 grains vs 28 without the softner. Kas, You use Tabs and rinse aid. I thought based on the directions that rinse aid should not be used with Tab detergents? I set the unit to not dispense any rinseaid. I do get white spots on silverware, plastic and glasses. Not sure I should add rinse aid....See MoreBosch 800 Plus VS. Miele Dimension (or Plus) HELP!
Comments (8)I think the biggest difference is the water softner. With the Bosch, you are supposed to test your water for hardness level then set the softner level. With the Miele, the DW measures the hardness level then softens the water. It manipulates the hardness level for optimum mineral content throughout the cycle. This is particularly usefull if using Perfect GlassCare cycle. The Bosch will be a bit quieter. An owner of the Dimension Plus says it has auto open like the Diamond but not auto close. But I don't see that on the spec sheet. This allows steam to exit out the door right after the cycle is done and aids drying. Neither have heated dry. Using goverment test the Bosch is more energy/water efficient.Until very recently, government DW test were done with clean dishes:) Some people here on GW did some "real world test" a while ago and it was really really close. The 800 Plus is made in Germany and is of very high quality but I think the Miele is a bit higher. If you care about companies enviromental policies then Miele is better there too. From green non-toxic manufacturing to parts recycling. Bosch is not illegaly dumping chemicals into some river but Miele takes its commitment to a higher level than required by law. I don't recall owners of either posting regrets and wishing they bought something else. Both seem happy with their purchase....See MoreMiele vs. Kitchenaid dishwasher
Comments (52)I see this is an old thread, but have been searching for a new dishwasher and thought I would add something more recent to help others. My 12 YO Maytag apparently has a broken control board, and rather than spend $215 for a part that may fix the problem, decided to upgrade. Unfortunately few if any of the dishwashers on the market got good reviews. We looked at the Miele G5105 that my wife loved, but I learned that you had to service with special service companies that charge $199 trip charges, and that repairs were not that uncommon. Also the bottom basket design seemed like it would be a huge challenge to load anything but small, slender plates. Large diameter dinner plates, casserole dishes, and soup bowls would not easily fit without rendering other slots unusable or resorting to flattening the tines and wasting a ton of space to fit a bowl or dish as if it were a pot. I found a review confirming this suspicion and a very frustrated owner. The latest metric on dishwashers is the number of place settings it will hold, and it seems that holding more place settings means narrow slots and inflexible designs. That's my opinion anyway. We wound up buying the KitchenAid KUDE60HXSS. Not a new model, but maybe that's why I like it. This and similar KA models seem to get the highest reviews of any brand I found, the bottom tray looks like it will hold a variety of sizes and thicknesses, it has the upper cutlery tray similar to the Miele, and has high temperature water options. It also is quiet (43 db) has a solid feel and looks good. Best Buy had a special on this unit ($100 less than Amazon) plus free delivery, install and removal of old unit (Miele dealer wanted $200). Disappointed in 1 yr warranty of top of the line unit, but with American Express card I got 2 years. You'll find lots of reviews of this and similar KA unit if you search. Hope this helps!...See MoreMiele Excella Owners - What is your opinion?
Comments (23)well...after MONTHS of researching, we finally got our miele excella on saturday and i proceeded to install it where our previous never used, 10+ year dishwasher (whirpool) was (never trusted it since we moved in). given that i had all the instructions and diagrams before i began, the installation process went well and quickly (about an hour or so). the power cord to the excella was a little short, so i needed to purchase an "air conditioner" extension cord. also, i need to call up miele and ask some questions on my particular install (no remodeling of the kitten and older home). wife has been hesitate of dishwashers since i started researching them. so, a couple of days prior to getting the dw, we started leaving dishes in the sink so that we can test them in the excella. so, we loaded up the excella. after the load up, we still had plenty of room to load up other things as well. the cutlery rack reals does leave more room on the other racks for other things. loaded up the salt, rinse aid and a half tablet (all miele branded). turned on the sensor wash and let the excella do it's thing. wife commented on how quiet it was (could barely hear it). the excella, 5 min into the wash, indicated that the middle arm was being blocked. opened up the dw and, sure enough, it was. so, adjusted things around and continued on. after it was done, wife was stunned on what came out. everything, except one spatula, came out clean and spotless! the spatula still had some egg residual on it, but that is because i didn't place it in the right location. while the dw was doing it's work, wife and I went out to the backyard and had a night cap. then, looked at the wife and told her..."you realize that our dishes are getting washed while we have our nice drink out here, right?" she responded "yes...it is nice and thank you!" my work is done...for now :) thx to everyone for their advance and comments....See Moresherri1058
