Painting Oak Kitchen cabinets - need help picking the color
Comments (7)This is timely because I have similar cabinets. I've been looking for whites that aren't too bright. I just got an estimate from a cabinet painter; his proposal included 2 coats of oil-based primer and then 2 coats of either oil or water-based paint. Here's what I've found in other threads: BM Linen White: SW Alabaster: SW Casa Blanca: SW Dover White: Here is a link that might be useful: Instructions on painting cabinets...See MoreAny regrets using white cabinets? 2 or more color cabinets?
Comments (15)Thanks so much for the comments. I didn't tell anyone, but dh and kd about the two tone until it was done. Kd was very apathetic and probably wouldn't have cared if I'd said I wanted blue and purple. Good for you for running from a kd who couldn't see your vision. The first part of our reno was done just as starpooh was creating the FKB and I kept thinking "after I do this one thing, then I'll post pics in the FKB". First it was making the island, then finding the perfect antique cabinet, then making the upper cabinet to go above the antique cabinet and on and on. I'm hoping to strip the doors on the wall cabinet I made (used antique doors and built the cab around them) and paint them the same colour as the rest of the cabs - then I promise I will post pics in the FKB (but will obviously have to hire someone to take the pictures ;-)...See MoreHelp picking colors for kitchen cabinets!!
Comments (13)Here are a few photos. (sorry about the big rose photo, but it is the only one I could find without people in it, and it shows the Wool Skein in natural light from the window and ceiling can lights.) The realtor photographer used quirky lighting. Someone had mentioned a color that might be a dark gray with a hint of blue. We used SW "Porpoise" on our exterior back doors and loved that color. Our painter was hesitant, but after he painted the door, he said he has recommended it to many others, and they all like it as well. I don't have it in front of me to remember the shade, but it might be worth looking at. The island here is SW Black Fox. It is a little darker in person than what the photos are showing. I think I would have preferred another color that was a bit more towards black (it is a dark gray in reality.) I did get lots of compliments on it also, but you never know if people are just being nice or they really like something. I do know the Wool Skein was a hit, because people would ask me the color, and then use that in their remodel. Ok, going to post some photos. In the top photo below, there is a little hutch I found that I painted the Wool Skein. I have it here at my new house and I am using it to pick out paint colors (I hold up paint chips and I have a SW paint wheel) to it, to help see how things will look. We will use Wool Skein again in our current remodel. If you find a color and want me to hold it up to the hutch so you can compare (such as if you find another cabinet color and want to see how it compares) I can do that....See MoreHelp me pick my kitchen cabinet color
Comments (26)@Hope Stewart thanks for your advice! no opening straight from kitchen to dining room no and then dining room and living room are open on each other. I'll keep your advice in mind thank you. For sure it's in the plans to sand down trims and use the same wood stain so the trimmings are the exact same shade of oak @acm that's what we fear too. thank you @Susie .I do too, but I'm def a newbie and could be wrong! I asked her & the color consultant from SW told me that seasalt works with our trims & floors because of the green it has in it. For sure it's in the plans to sand down trims and use the same wood stain so the trimmings are the exact same shade of oak. Thank you to all, we have decided to play it safer and are going to have them painted in Pure white. I think this will allow for maximum versatility. If we find seasalt clashes too much once they go up + brushed gold hardware, the oak shelving & breakfast counter-butchers block over the radiator and stools & lighting fixture over island incorporating both wood and gold touches, then we will just paint walls over in a more neutral color that will better match the wood & the pure white cabinets. **Now remains the question** : PLEASE HELP : considering the professionals spray painting our cabinets only use SW colors, and pure white is the color chosen- what finish would you choose for the kitchen cabinets? We have no children or pets, but both cook a lot. What exact line of their paint do you recommend? Decision # 1: satin or semi-gloss? Decision #2 : line of paint : Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint? Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel? Emerald Designer Edition Interior Latex Paint ? ProClassic Waterborne Interior Acrylic Enamel ? something else? Thanks again in advance for your very appreciated input 🙏...See Morerockybird
