Help me pick my cabinet color: medium brown or cherry?
Comments (7)Flipping through magazines and clipping picutres here on GW can really help. You can clip by saving to your "Clippings" the scissors on the upper right corner of your post. Visit FKB (Finished Kitchens blog) look at all the cherry and brown kitchens you can find to see what you like. I tend to agree with you that a cool brown not cherry is going to be easier to work with than a red cherry color. But this is just my personal love of wood tones. Keep in mind colors of floor, walls, counters, and the lighting will all add to the way the colors work. Meanwhile here are some different toned woods. Maybe you husband can start looking at what he loves the most and perhaps the two of you can find a dream kitchen. ~boxerpups Cherry Here are both woods used. A reddish tone and a warm brown island. Oak or fir (something with a rich grain) Maple Celebrity Cabinetry Strawberry Hill Millwork Cherry Luxury homes Delaware Cherry with a pecan stain Progressive Builders Mutschler Ktichens inc. Blake Sophisticated Stone Kansas City Lyptus Wood DuraSupreme Alectra Montego Door Lyptus Riemer Fine Cabinetry 11 If there is more of one color or type above let me know by responding and I will try to find more images similar to what you like above. Thinking of you and hoping you can find the right combo for your new kitchen. ~boxerpups...See MoreHelp me pick a paint color for my kitchen. Please?!
Comments (44)Kitchendetective, that wall by the table is the only full wall. Other than that I have a lot of cutting in above and below windows and doors, plus a small wall about 18" wide next to my oven. I'm afraid it would look too chopped up to have those little bits and pieces one color and the table wall a different color. What do you think? I'm really terrible at visualizing. I want to say thanks to all of you for your specific paint suggestions. I've got them all written down and I'm going tomorrow to my local awesome paint store with my bag of samples and see what I come up with. It helps me so much to have specific paints to look at because there are just too many choices and it overwhelms a girl! tkbalt, your kitchen is so pretty. What a transformation from those white slab doors! I'll be back Monday with narrowed down choices and photos of my favorites painted on the wall with my kitchen samples propped up. OR MAYBE WITH MY REAL CABINETS!!! I just realized, cabs are scheduled to go in tomorrow. WOO HOO!!! Anita...See Morehelp me pick marmoleum colors for my kitchen
Comments (28)It IS a pretty stove, isn't it? There are lots of nice options for more colorful appliances these days--I love those Bertazzonis, plus the colorful Vikings, BlueStars, Agas.... Be sure to find pictures of RedRange's kitchen (with a gorgeous red BlueStar, among other features...now THAT kitchen makes me swoon!) sundownr...thanks! The countertops are black Paperstone, a recycled paper product similiar to Richlite. Both products have an almost leathery matte finish, and seem softer and warmer to the touch than granite. I was tempted by soapstone, but it seemed like quite a pain to find slabs in my area, and I was worried I would end up with a slab with more veining than I wanted...so I went with the Paperstone, and so far have been very happy with it. I actually used Paperstone as the threshold between my Marmoleum and hard wood floors, too--which has worked out surprisingly well! bmarshall--it feels good to have the decision made, doesn't it? Now you have to make sure you post some pictures when you are done; we all love the marmoleum kitchens! :)...See MoreHelp me pick the color for my kitchen walls
Comments (6)When we picked out paint colors, we went through several phases: We took pictures of the colors we had to the paint store and held up swatches to them to get a subset of colors we wanted. This got us to about 10 colors per room. Then we went online to the paint's web site, where they had a room simulator that you could populate with colors. This got us down to about 3 colors per room. We then bought sample jars of all our colors, and painted 3' x 4' sheets of posterboard (primed it first) and took turns proping them up on the wall (with 1" strips of trim color) so we could see what it looked like in the actual lighting at that location. That got us down to the final colors, and we are very happy with the results. (Though there were some surprises. Remember that if you have lots of natural light, it is going to pick up the color of everything it hits, and reflect that color onto every other surface. When the sunset hits the floor to ceiling window of the light yellow 5' by 5' mud room, the entire room and the hall outside it is flooded with an intense yellow light. The result is a room that looks 5 shades deeper than the surrounding walls.)...See MoreFey P.
