I did a little more googling and read that when the weather gets too hot sometimes that can cause the female flowers to not open. Mine are still a bit greenish so they seem immature yet, but closed up tight. Some gardeners will pull back one of the female petals and pollinate anyway. I might test this. Our weather has been 90-100 for days so I'm sure that can't help. The heat is supposed to break tonight so maybe I'll get some open flowers tomorrow!

Ooh, that may be hard to figure out where the separate grafts are right now. See if you can find four different kinds of leaves, right now. If you can differentiate the leaves, then you'll find your different grafts. If that fails, well... just trim it back well, then wait until it fruits and see. Not all of the grafts may have survived, and perhaps the rootstock has sent out some shoots, too. (That fruit probably would not be very edible.) Let me know how it goes! Good luck.

Guess I will find out........the afternoon storm gave 2". We had another big one about midnight that gave another 2". I pollinated a couple just before the first rain came down so there probably wasn't 30 minutes from time I pollinated until the rain came. Pollen would have to travel pretty fast to have done its job. I try to do my dabbing in early morning, even before I feed my horses. This morning, it was nice and cool, some pollen hadn't even opened up yet. Judith

With tomato flowers, it's the style length and anther cone aperture size that are important in potential crossing. Being a naturally inbreeding and self-pollinating flower, the anthers shed pollen on the inside of the cone, that falls directly onto the stigma, if the aperture is large (think Brandywines and large Beefsteaks) then a solitary bee or other insect will be able to access the pollen. If however the anther cone aperture is tiny (Think Cherry Toms) then chances of a natural (insect) crossing is minimized or almost zero. That's why cherry tomatoes come up every year in the same location without any hybridization. The next issues is style length. If the stigma protrudes from the anther cone then there is a high probability of crossing and vice versa. Bagging a spray would be the easiest way to ensure purity, organza bags are exceptionally cheap and the easiest way bag blossoms. Hope this helps.
