Comments (22)Maire_cate, I love L&T! My favorite place to shop for special occasion dresses, but there is no location near me. There is one in my hometown. No weddings this summer, but I needed a dress for an awards ceremony at my conference (I became recognized as a Fellow in my professional organization) and dinner. I went to the largest location of local dept store since they have a giant special occasion dress section figuring *something* had to work. I found this Ann Klein dress that is very figure flattering--though I normally have trouble with sheath styles, and I am not at the size I would like to be. I did not feel either overdressed or under-dressed. Plus, It is a knit. Then I went upstairs and tried on some shapewear with it. I felt as good as I could. It was the first dress I tried on out of a whole bunch. Many of the Anne Klein dresses were very flattering. I have a similar-looking vintage cocktail handbag from my mom, and I forgot to pack it. Here is a link that might be useful: Anne Klein dress...See MoreWhat I'm wearing to 'The' wedding? Many pics
Comments (24)This is fun; thanks, everyone, for helping me celebrate. We have to make our own entertainment at times out here on the prairie! LOL ...HoustonMom...Are these the types of friends where you can simply invite yourself to the party? ...RedCurls...You're correct. Never wear white or ivory (or whatever color the bride is wearing) to a wedding, even in these days where the "rule" is "no rules." I like rules/guidelines. ...Kat WA...Yes, I'm wearing all the appropriate underpinnings; I just didn't want to advertise them to the world. LOL I found a lovely full-length slip with no lace of any kind on it to shadow through. It's peach, and more of dress liner than a slip. I could (if I were really buying all these items) simply hem it to be 3/4-inch shorter than the dress. No shadows at all. Seamed stocking are great, but I've never been able to keep the lines straight. (In my dreams I'm more of a fishnets kinda girl! LOL) I'm going with plain stockings. ...Sylvia...and DotMom...I'm in no danger of doing that, LOL. I just want to be appropriate for the occassion. ...Kacee...I'd love a hat, too, but I'm thinking with my full round face and short, full neck, and the fluffy wide neckline on the dress, a hat just might to "too" much. I love hats; when I was thinner I wore them a lot. ...Liz GA...You know you're going to have to bootleg all those copies. And after things settle down we can talk "Old Country Roses." By carefull searching, I've almost completed my set with all the older, still made-in-England pieces. I love, love, love this pattern....See MoreIs it okay to wear pants/capris to a wedding?
Comments (24)I attended a wedding last weekend. It was beautiful. The ceremony and dinner were both held in the same room in a lodge at a State park. The bride wore a long ivory gown, complete with train and veil; the groom and best man wore beautiful suits with silk shirts and ties. The matron-of-honor was in a short satin halter dress, and the 12-year-old bridesmaid/ringbear was in a long gown. No other attendants. I saw female guests who were wearing...long evening dresses (the mothers), short cocktail dresses, cotton sun dresses, skirt and blouse combos, capri's and blouse combos, dressy pant suits, casual pant suits, heels, sandals, cowboy boots, flip flops, and clogs. Most of the men were in dress slacks or khakis and short-sleeved shirts; a few wore suits; a few wore jeans; some wore shorts. The bride's brother escorted her grandmother into the room. He also greeted all the guests coming in. He was wearing a silky bright print shirt, cargo shorts, heavy sandals, tattoos, a pony-tail, gold hoop earrings, and the happiest smile in the place. I wore a gauzy, hippy-style, poncho-type blouse attached/layered over a cotton knit camisole type shirt. The gauzy layer has a turquoise, green, cream, and purple pattern with thin gold threads running through them. My slacks were light-weight casual pants. I wore heeled sandals and gold dangle earrings and carried a small beige handbag. I think I was a tad "overdressed."...See MoreMy turn for advice on what to wear to a wedding
Comments (31)Bac717 i have that same dress in the paisley and wore to a wedding. Got many compliments on it and it was very appropriate for me at 53. With the high neckline I didn't need any jewelry but you could go either way. I had a summer silk scarf in pink as my dress was multi colored I am tall and very thin and find that Tommy Hilfinger dresses fit me well....See MoreUser
