What I'm wearing to 'The' wedding? Many pics

I know it's simply because of a mail delivery glitch between England and North Dakota, but I have not yet received my Royal Wedding invitation.

I'm not stressing; I've picked my outfit and will be attending "live" through BBC America. LOL Tea and tea sandwiches will be served in the parlour on "Old Country Roses" bone china.

A couple of friends and myself decide to pick our outfits. The rules were we had to find suitable "Royal Wedding Gear" that would fit us and was within our real-life budget. (So, no size 2, $3,000 gown for me! LOL) We didn't actually purchase the garments but we shopped for them.

I'm a vintage kind of girl, so eBay and Etsy came to my rescue.

Here's my dress, vintage 1960s, chiffon and maribou. ($55.)

Dress Back...

Bodice...

Shoes...(or should I wear pumps in plain, dark ivory?

Am I too old to wear a small feathery hair comb?

Or one more wispy? This can be made in peach or ivory.

Hand bag choices. The purple bag can be made in ivory or peach duponi silk. It's $65; more than the dress. Ooops!

Or this vintage lucite charmer?

Either way, this hanky will be tucked inside my virtual purse. (I'm actually buying this. I have a vintage hanky fettish.)

I'll wear the pearl studs I already own.

So, will it "do?" Any suggestions so I fit in with the Westminster crowd? Remember I'm short, round, and of "a certain age." LOL

Caroline, dawling, you will be absolutely elegant. Surely you must know, you will out-shine the Queen? I love the dress.
I know I'll watch the nuptials, but only after the fact. The actually take place in the middle of the night, out time. what a beautiful Bride Kate will make.

auntjen, DH (and therefore I) have had to go to a couple of not-particularly-liked co-workers' weddings purely for office politics. He didn't give crap one about the co-workers (and I wouldn't have known them had they stopped me on the street and kicked me in the shins) but had he not shown up things would not have gone very well for him in the office. Some workplaces are just lousy like that, if you don't participate in the "office culture" you're sunk at review time. There were other "unwritten-but-really-required" activities like the bar-hops and expensive restaurant lunches (of course not paid for by the employer) for stuff like birthdays and departures that contributed to his leaving that job. Things like that added up very fast, and DH was the lowest-paid person in the office by a BIG margin - like there were several people in that office making 10x what DH did. At the time I had ONE nice dress, and it was the standard all-occasion, all-season "little black dress" with princess seams and elbow-length sleeves. I wore brightly-colored accessories - shoes, purse, and chunky vintage jewelry from Goodwill ;-) - and didn't get any guff from anyone.

Well, ladies...I went out and got a new pair of crop/long capri pants -- in khaki! Christopher Blue, a new line to me. So many of them didn't fit, but this pair did, so I thought of you all and went ahead and did it. Clearance at Nordstrom Rack : ) I tried Terri's skirt at Target but it really didn't do anything for me. I think I need more structure, rather than less now...although if I won the lottery, I'd dress year round in Eileen Fisher and never think about anything else. I LOVE that line, partly because she gives some of her attention to petites and doesn't write us off. I saw some crops in Eileen Fisher (which I can't afford for everyday wear), so I figured what the heck go ahead and try other ones on. I will definitely be aware and be more choosy than just getting any old capris/crops now, though. The Fibonacci site is a great reminder. And stinky, you made my day. An Amazon, hm?: :)

Thank you ladies! The TS is very comfortable and I do like it the best. Actually the VC was comfortable too. It had those side gathers (which are supposed to do something to flatter you I guess) but just look like uneven fabric to me. Even though I didn't want to wear black, the gold and silver embroidery really is beautiful on the dress. You can't really see it all that well in the photo. Both are figure-skimming without feeling tight. Any size up would just hang loose on me. I know because I've tried that & there is a big difference in sizing up.

I use any excuse to buy a dress! My everyday life. work and social is very casual, so I find wearing a dress special. I would do a simple knee length dress. I would go shopping at the stores before doing online shopping. Sizing nowadays is so difficult, you don't want to waste money sending things back. I agree about dress slacks and a nice top. A pretty sweater set with 3/4 sleeves might be nice too. Are you okay with going out of the comfort zone of Wal-Mart? My favorite store is Loft, but for dressier than the sister store Anne Taylor. I never ever pay full price for anything. Things are alway going on sale, you just have to be diligent. I would check out Chico's, and then make the rounds of the department stores. Macy's, Lord and Taylor, lots of coupons for Mother's Day and there will be for Memorial Day.

LOL What a fun idea! Your outfit is perfect. You'll look smashing....although the royals will out-hat you for sure. You know how they are!

I got up early to watch Diana get married, but this time I hope to find excerpts online as my TV isn't hooked up to get channels yet. I'm sure it will be a lovely wedding.

What a wonderful outfit you have chosen!! I would go with the heels as they match so well! Oh and definitely go with the first comb, that little hint of colour will be perfect!
I am probably in the minority here but yes I will watch the wedding, I am British born. I know I am the type of person who even though I won't set the alarm....my inner alarm will wake me. If it doesn't, then that would be okay as I am sure there will be coverage later.
I hope they will have a wonderful day but more importantly and happy and joyful life together.

Love your outfit. You'll be prettier than the bride! The shoes are perfect, too. Your wedding party sounds like a lot of fun. You must be a wacky group :-)

I'll watch because British royalty fascinates me. TV is starting brodcasts at 4:00 a.m. EDT, so I'll miss that part.

I saw on TV that she's wearing her hair down and I'm so glad. I don't know why women these days think they have to wear their hair up on their wedding day. I almost didn't recognize my niece--she never, ever wore her hair up until that day. I like them to look like themselves.

I absolutely love your outfit you've selected. What a neat idea you and your friend had. Comb #1, purse #2, and the shoes you posted will be just right. And you will definitely fit in and be outstanding at the same time.

I will tape the gala event. Didn't have that option for Diana's and felt kind of cheated with what they showed later. Then, 'they' chose what parts to air later on. With taping, I can choose.

Love it!

I'd like to watch it live, but realistically, it isn't going to happen. I'll just enjoy what I see later.

I'm a fan of hair pulled up for weddings particularly the ones that are more formal. Some of the more modern hairstyles don't look right under a veil. Kate has long hair so it will still be beautiful, I'm sure.

What a fun post! Love the shoes and the 1st hair comb. Are you going to watch the wedding with the friends that also picked out attire? A friend of mine is driving up to Dallas for a wedding party w/some other friends...wish I'd been invited!

I love, love, love that dress! Wear the print shoes with it. I too haven't received my official invitation yet, but the mail delivery in my little town is iffy on a good day. :)

I wont be watching cause I work all night Friday night...but I've commandeered both tivo's in the house to tape it on four different channels! I can't wait to see the dress!! (and Old Country Roses is my dream pattern!! I'm not a china gal but if I ever decide to buy a set...that's what it will be!) I really just want 6 tea cups and saucers so I can make a chandelier out of them!)

HA! I have a dress JUST like that in my closet except no fuzzy/furry parts and it is off-white. I've always heard that white is off-limits for everyone except the bride, so I won't be wearing it Friday.

...RedCurls...You're correct. Never wear white or ivory (or whatever color the bride is wearing) to a wedding, even in these days where the "rule" is "no rules."

I like rules/guidelines.

...Kat WA...Yes, I'm wearing all the appropriate underpinnings; I just didn't want to advertise them to the world. LOL

I found a lovely full-length slip with no lace of any kind on it to shadow through. It's peach, and more of dress liner than a slip. I could (if I were really buying all these items) simply hem it to be 3/4-inch shorter than the dress. No shadows at all.

Seamed stocking are great, but I've never been able to keep the lines straight. (In my dreams I'm more of a fishnets kinda girl! LOL) I'm going with plain stockings.

...Sylvia...and DotMom...I'm in no danger of doing that, LOL. I just want to be appropriate for the occassion.

...Kacee...I'd love a hat, too, but I'm thinking with my full round face and short, full neck, and the fluffy wide neckline on the dress, a hat just might to "too" much. I love hats; when I was thinner I wore them a lot.

...Liz GA...You know you're going to have to bootleg all those copies. And after things settle down we can talk "Old Country Roses." By carefull searching, I've almost completed my set with all the older, still made-in-England pieces. I love, love, love this pattern.
