Calif botanical gardens & parks in February?
Comments (20)In the Bay Area... I second the UC Botanical Garden. (I'm a member, it is a gem.) Nearby you can visit our beautiful Redwood Regional park. Walk the French Trail & the Chown Trail for a good workout among huge trees and an amazing stream. Wear your hiking boots, it can be muddy in February. Along Skyline Boulevard, between the Botanical Garden and Redwood Park is a place called Huckleberry Nature Preserve. It is a beautiful, mostly flat mile or so long trail that has an interpretive guide. In San Francisco, you could have a great time walking through Golden Gate Park and Crissy Field. Strybring Arboretum is fabulous, and there is a living roof on the new science museum that is pretty cool. Walk up the hill from Crissy Field to Pacific Heights and enjoy the mansion gardens. (Hint, there is not a weed or fallen leaf for blocks and blocks.) Sonoma Horticultural Nursery is a great place to visit, even if you don't want to buy anything. Their grounds are fabulous-acres and acres- and some of their rhodos will be in bloom by then. There is a demonstration garden outside Sonoma called Crossroads (I think.) It is series of changing gardens done by designers. I could go on and on... Here is a link that might be useful: East Bay Regional Parks...See MoreSpfd Botanical Garden Part 2, image heavy
Comments (10)Hi Helenh, The poppies are at the Xeriscape Garden at S National Ave & E Linwood, just south of the Springfield Art Museum on the west side of National. There are lots of things in bloom there. Ornamental alliums should be coming on around now too there. The Botanical Center & Gardens has now tied the two parks together to form one park called Nathanael Greene:Close Memorial Park which is inclusive of the total 114 acres. The Conifer Garden is tucked away so the maps below will help. You can view this interactive map to find the gardens and read descriptions of each. You can also download this map of the park and print it out....See MoreImage heavy--visit to Spfd botanical garden
Comments (19)All of your beautiful photos were taken in the Master Gardener Demonstration Gardens except for photo #3 which is the Federated Garden Club. These 2 gardens are just 2 of 21 that exist in the 114 acres that comprise Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park. You must turn right as Christy said to get to the southwest parking lot. There you will see the English Garden, the Iris Garde, Hosta Garden, Asiatic Lily Garden, Ornamental Grass Garden, Butterfly Garden, White Garden, Columbine Garden, Redbud Garden, Wildflower Garden, and that's just to name a few. You'll also see the Butterfly House which opens May 15 and runs through September. There will be a Bluegrass & Blossoms Festival, as well as the Butterfly Festival. For more on events at the park, check the link below. You can "search" for events at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park.
